Do you miss the era of party-based RPGs from the 90s? Then we have some great news for you!

Call of Saregnar is a nod to those times and will take you on a journey where you follow an intriguing story with interesting characters in a unique fantasy medieval setting. Prepare to enjoy a lush, handcrafted 3D world that just begs to be explored, because it is coming soon to GOG!

The graphics are charmingly old-school, low-poly 3D with photorealistic textures. All the characters are photographs and frame sequences of real actors you can interact with, see in the world, and fight. The combat system is a turn-based hex grid affair with many tactical options. Also, the game has a magic system based on gods and divine favor, which is unique and immersive. Overall the title has a very relaxing pace, and it feels like reading a good novel; it makes you feel right at home.

Make sure to wishlist it so you won’t miss its release or any special offer!
Its been a long trip indeed

Call of Krondor
Betrayal at Saregnar

That alone could have make happy a lot of people because every RPG style had its modern version except the peculiar Betrayal of Krondor way of things. Underrated, and a cult opus at the same time. Open world and a quality story based linear game at the same time. Peculiar.

But am sure that it is a game in its own right

I hope the i5 requirement is not right, I really want to try this game.
As has been overwhelmingly noted, this one gives me definite Call of Krondor vibes! :) Let's hope it has a good storyline to go along with the old RPG style. Very glad this one is coming to GOG, and for Win7, Mac and Linux systems also. Wishlisted!
For those who missed the other thread where it was discussed a bit ago, and where the dev also stopped by now, have a look there too.
And as I was saying there, BaK did do some really interesting things gameplay-wise too, but at the same time it had some issues too, and 30 years later just recreating that exact same gameplay will drive away far more than will be drawn in by the nostalgia of it, need a number of QoL elements there. But above all that, BaK was great, and remains so fondly remembered by many who played it, because of its story, and a game made specifically to bring players back to that moment, for those who enjoyed BaK and want something like it again, will need to be on par story-wise or it will sorely disappoint. So let's hope they'll do it justice from that point of view above all.

Otherwise, yeah, requirements seem way too high for something like this. Really should run on a potato. And even a 32-bit potato, for those of us without more than 4 GB of RAM and who don't want to find that they can fit that much less into those limited resources by going 64-bit...

Same here! It's really nice to know that there are still people who think "even if we're in the times of Witcher 3 nothing can stop us to still make games like Krondor" :) This one looks awesome. I'd definitely like to check if it can deliver the same awesome atmosphere known from Krondor series.

I'm really also it comes with Linux support. Very nice for a small dev studio.
Reminds me of the very low poly https://www.gog.com/en/game/serpent_in_the_staglands, esp. font-wise.
And wishlisted.

Rhuantavan: Yes, CoS is very much inspired by BaK! :)
Congratulations on the upcoming release! I really like the Betrayal at Krondor style but had no idea the game was so far along already. Looking forward to it!

Hello Rhuantavan!

You are (one of) the developer(s) of "Call of Saregnar", right?

I do appreciate the style and type of game, as well. It reminds me not only of "Betrayal at Krondor", but also of the German "Realms of Arkania" series (in German "Die Nordlandtrilogie")!
Especially, the somewhat pixelated 3D graphics combined with the digitized fotos for characters and the focus on text-delivery with respect to the story, environment and encounter descriptions give me a warm nostalgic feel.
The turn-based battle system seem more similar to "Realms of Arkania", which I prefered over how "Betrayal of Krondor" did combat.

From seeing and experiencing the demo content, I would like to ask you two questions:

First, would it be possible to add some more stills of different facial expressions for (at least the main) characters in conversations?

Maybe, 3 or 4 facial / body expressions in total could be considered:
- one neutral expression (could be the current ones of (main) characters)
- one happy face (for positive, optimistic, exited reactions)
- one sad face (for negative, pessimistic, disappointed reactions)
- one terrified or exhausted expression (optional)

Secondly, does the game world open up a bit more during the game?

I liked the more spacious areas and forest to enter. But the demo gave me the impression of a quite linear and enclosed space, literally just following a single path. Both of which appear to be true in the design of the ingame world map, as well.
Each of the classic games had a good share of openness in their game world design, where you could go. I am not asking for an "open world sandbox" design--a type that does not fit into all kind of games nor narratives--but for additional options of paths (fork(s) on the way) to choose from.

I am looking forward to your game, and wish you best of luck in the ongoing development!

Kind regards,
foxgog

At least in BaK you could explore all over in chapter 1, just don't go to the intended destination until you finished it all. Did so back then, cleaned up enemies, got the best gear I could, skills up, other items, then go back to continue the story.
Wishlisted! Real happy to see it is W7-friendly. I might be one of the few here unfamiliar with Betrayal at Krondor. xD
I really love Call of Saregnar's oldskool feel and those photo sprites are a fantastic touch. :) Gives the game a home-brewed kick to it! Hoping for a demo soon... :D
Interesting, looks like a remake from a classic game, reminds me the Elder Scrolls classics and HoMM for the battles! ^_^
Probably the best thing GOG have released this week in the store.
Sprites of digitized photos, wow! This looks very good.
Hey, it’s the author here. Thank you vety much for the kind words, everyone!
I happen to really like the mechanic of skills improving through use, and I really wish more games would use this mechanic.
