An ancient evil has returned to Baldur's Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out. The fate of Faerun lies in your hands. Alone, you may resist. But together, you can overcome.

Larian Studios have just announced that they are developing and publishing Baldur’s Gate III. Created in close collaboration with the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast, Baldur’s Gate III is based off current D&D mechanics and spells and is the official new chapter in the legendary series.

Baldur’s Gate III will push the boundaries of the RPG genre and offer a rich narrative with unparalleled player freedom, high-stakes decisions, unique companion characters and memorable combat. It is Larian Studios’ biggest production ever and will be playable together with friends or as a single-player adventure.

Prepare for the return of a malevolent presence to Baldur's Gate, intent on devouring it from the inside out, corrupting everything that remains in the Forgotten Realms.

Alone you may resist, but together you can overcome. Gather your party.

Baldur’s Gate III Early Access coming to GOG.COM on October 6th!
"Will do some things that CRPGs have never done"

This could either be amazing or lead to a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth (particularly if it's multi related)

Apparently this has Colin McComb (Planescape Torment) writing for it so that's a plus.
If it turns out appropriately more serious and mature (and way less whimsical and light-hearted) than Larian's previous efforts then I actually might pick this up.
Does this mean Beamdog is not involved in the development of Baldur's Gate III?

Larian Studios experience building the two recent Divinity: Original Sin games gives me hope that they are up to this task.
From the Divinity: Original Sin devs. Very good choice. Looking forward to it.

Hell YEAH !!!! Dreams come to reality !!! Thank you Larian & GOG !!!
Will auto-buy on day 0.

Do we have a release day or something close ?

That trailer tho, that's what happened to me the other day after drinking too much. :|
I think the trailer is kind of "meh", and just playing on shock value. I hope it's going to end up better than "Fight your way through the Illithid plague and do some asinine side quests to get XP", as the Far Realm can make a very subtle and terrifying enemy with a great story.

It's Larian Studios, friend. Best RPG devs today. Best devs and most honest devs out there. Nothing to worry about, except for how long we have to wait. Nothing else matters!

From their, updating D&D Rules, does that mean we are not going to take over our character from Baldur's Gate 2?
This will be interesting, is BG3 going to be a continuation of BG1 and 2 or will it be a unrelated story set in the city of Baldur's Gate? Also if it is related to the old games which ending will they choose from the end of ToB?
According to this interview here, the game will not be a direct continuation:

So to answer the question "why BG3?", it's just Brand Name Recognition. It's a profitable saga and I imagine they'll try to have a few references to it in addition to being set in that Forgotten Realms city, but it's gonna be their own story and system.

You must gather your party before venturing forth
No Linux version listed. What? They are making it for Stadia. So why is the Linux version not announced for GOG as well?
Wow, what a news.
Now - hurry up, we need to complete already released ones! :)
D:OS 1 and 2 have been very well-received so this seems like great news.
