Tale as old as time.

Bard's Tale IV: Barrow's Deep, is coming soon, DRM-free to GOG.com.
More than 100 years later, evil is back, as it tends to do. Pick one of four available classes (yes, you don't have to be a bard) and before you know it you'll be crawling through cavernous dungeons or the legendary city of Skara Brae, solving puzzles, bopping beasties in a turn-based fashion and having a grand ol' time. Along with your party and your shiny gear, of course.

I never played the original Bard's Tales, but I love CRPG's of yesteryear, so if it's going to be like them, then I can't wait to buy this one. I'll wait a while for to see it's condition and state, and to see it updated first though. I never buy games on day 1 in this day and age anymore.
oooh, wonder when the Kickstarter keys go out. I should check my portal.
As a backer, I hope the wait for this proves to be worthwhile!
Fingers crossed.
MINIMUM requirement a GTX 970?
LOL

Good luck with that.
Played, obsessed, and loved the original I-III episodes of Bard's Tale, such a great memory of my early teens. Still remember the distinctively flat game box.

Speaking of this latest BT that is in dev, I am not so sure about it, from what I have seen in trailers. It looks a bit like Wizardry 8, but a whole more like Lords of Xulima. Not a fan of that.
You should watch the videos here to see why you need a 970 at least - especially the in-engine footage :)

If they'd stayed on Unity the minimum would be probably 1070 instead...

amund: I hope you don't have to play the previous games to understand the story and its world, I would probably never play those so a summary or something would be good. Also, why does this game have loot boxes? Looks like it does from the trailer.

Anyway, wishlisted for now, it looks decent enough.

dtgreene: I believe what you saw is just an ordinary treasure chest. In the original trilogy, whenever you clear a placed encounter (common, for example, after kicking through a door), the enemies will drop a (possibly trapped) treasure chest. You can have your thief try to identify and disarm the chest (if that works in the version you're playing), or you can just bypass it by casting a cheap Trap Zap spell, at which point you open the chest and get money (not actually that useful) and random treasure (which can be very useful, and includes such things as a Fire Horn that lets your Bard breathe fire like a dragon).

Also, the original trilogy isn't story heavy, so you don't need to worry about it. I will tell you that BT1 takes place in Skara Brae, BT2 takes place in a dream world, and BT 3 goes back to Skara Brae, but it's in ruins. (What's with classic WRPGs destroying a city called Skara Brae anyway?)
That would explain it as it seemed strange with a chest pop up like that and especially for a single player game. I actually thought this was a story heavy game because of the game title but thanks for your detailed explanation. I'll just wait to see what some gameplay says about the game, trailers don't say much anyway.
Looks really horrible, kinda generic modern JRPG.
Dear inXile Entertainment,
good luck with your new release, but I will probably wait The Bard's Tale to be updated to the same version present on Steam, before buying anything from you again. Regards.

The game itself could turn out to be great, and far beyond generic, however they made some really bizarre design decisions. The environments and enemy models are pretty much state of the art, yet the player characters are rendered as ( rather unappealing ) static pictures? And the HUD elements in the foreground look strange as well, and seem to clash with the setting and style of the game. Might give it a closer look once it's released, but the initial impression leaves me with mixed feelings about the game.
Damn, and I haven't even played the first three parts.

ChrisGamer300: but atleast it won't be an subpar Arpg.
Hey, some people actually liked that game. I thought it was the best of the BG:DA engine games. Too bad the gog version is broken on Linux. Just like BG:DA wasn't a Baldur's Gate game, The Bard's Tale wasn't really a Bard's Tale game. So what? At least they never claimed it was the official successor, like Bethesda did with Fallout 3.

That said, although this new game seems interesting, I'll evaluate it for its own merits, and disregard the "Bard's Tale" title. Fact is, while most of the games I play these days are RPGs, I hated them in the 80s, and Bard's Tale was one of the reasons why. I've tried recently to replay them, hoping that a new perspective might make me actually enjoy them, but I can't.
Spotted this just as the page was loading. I sincerely hope that's not the final price!!!

I'm quite aware that there are people who like the game and didn't say there wasn't any but i personally did not like it at all and i'm happy they are going to back dungeon crawl instead of an hack n slash arpg while hopefully staying semi faithful to the originals.

There are things i don't like from the few trailers i've seen like the HUD among other stuff but it has potential to be a considerably better Bards Tale game imo.

I have nothing against The Bards Tale being different seeing as it was a spin off and not a main installment but neither did i enjoy it very much as an arpg or Bard Tale game but that's just my take on it but for those who did i do hope Inxile decide to release the remaster here as well.

Indeed. With this puppy you can zoom around in GTAV without a hitch at highest texture resolution.
If you need this for your fixed perspective round based game to even work you got a problem.
