I'm sure some of you remember Chip's Challenge. It was that old Windows/Lynx/DOS game about a nerd who has to collect chips to complete levels.

And maybe some of you are aware of Chuck's Challenge, which was made while the creator of Chip's Challenge was failing to secure the rights to his IP from complete twats, Bridgestone who were asking 6 figures for a very old puzzle game.

Thankfully, he was able to acquire the rights and was able to release the long awaited Chip's Challenge 2.

"Wait, when?" I hear you ask. Back on May 28, 2015.

Why you never heard of it is probably because this was advertised as well as a fart in an active wind tunnel, and looks exactly like a game that just woke up from a 20 year coma.

Now given the chance, I'd happily snap up both titles, but the problem is that neither of their wishlist entries come close to 200 votes and I doubt anyone has asked (nicely) to Chuck about the game coming here.

The price certainly is right for it to be here.

So, what do you think? Fit for GOG, or not?

I really enjoyed the first, played on my Amstrad CPC at the time... Voted for the sequel, nice to know!

I wish I could have gotten them here. I bought both on steam not knowing that both require to be online to play. (I foolishly assumed a 20+ year old game wouldn't have such restrictions.)

I contacted Chuck, back when Chip's Challenge 2 was being made.

Unfortunately, he didn't want to bring it to GOG - he only wanted it on steam. ) :
Actually, I found him quite arragont, at the possibility of his games being DRM-free, here on GOG.

Having said that, if Chip's Challenge 1 & 2, and Chuck's Challenge DID find their way here, I would snap them up like a shot! ( :


EDIT: I won't buy them on steam, though. I prefer my games WITHOUT DRM.

Yeah I got a similar email from him when I did the same.

Bugger, really? Online required? Hm, that's a bit of a letdown. I have this tasty cash here in my hand, and I'm willing to spend it! Oh well! Guess I'll save my pennies for...eh, Zoo Tycoon or something.

Unfortunately, it might be a bit hard to get here, it seems.

If he doesn't want to sell his games here, there are other games that scratch the same itch like the DROD series, Desktop Dungeons, etc.

And of course, the freeware engines that work just like it.

You totally missed the opportunity of saying “Bummer” like in the game. :P

That was added to the Windows 3.X version which is an inferior port.

Yeah, it just opens and closes instantly launching the game when steam is offline. No error message or anything. Found this out a bit too late.

Per a developer: "It has 0% to do with Achievements and 100% to do with Microsoft & Valve. And no you can't turn off Valve because that would turn off the Store, so it would not be on Steam. And no you can't turn off Microsoft because you'd have no game ;)" and "Steam = Store => No Store = No Game."

And it looks like they gave up on fixing this "bug".

So steam is causing so many problems... so why doesn't he release a DRM-free version that doesn't require steam?

Lots of people would jump at a DRM-free version.
