The new game from Lavapotion and Coffee Stain Publishing is all about leading armies and conquering new lands – that’s stating the obvious. Yet the turn-based structure of Songs of Conquest gives you also the time to appreciate some of its fantastic locations. Just take a look!

Gold is the most important resource in the game as it allows you to construct buildings and raise units. If you feel you need a bigger army, a gold mine is your place to go.

The stone resource is almost as much important as gold for constructing your buildings. Make sure to have a quarry if you want to make your castle invincible.

More fantastic locations in Songs of Conquest await your discovery or construction. Play the game today to feel a sense of wonder!
Imitation is also the sincerest form of flattery, or so they say.

Not having played SoC myself yet (still waiting for the full release) but having watched quite a bit of gameplay SoC seems to deviate enough from the HoMM2/3 formula that calling it a blatant rip-off is a bit much, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Everyone that can't get over how much it still resembles HoMM2/3 is free to just ignore it and the advertisement of it altogether? Still amazes me how a lot of people seem to be incapable of just turning their attention away from that thing they don't like, ignore it and carry on with their lives.

Absolutely. I might have bought it already if not for the spam marketing here - and the fact there is no linux build so probably not actually.

But I feel strongly that the more aggressive the marketing the less likely the developers are in it for the long term.

19/22 GOG reviews reference HOMM.

This is not a coincidence. This game is freeloading off the HOMM series's reputation.

Other platforms' reviews of the same game make interesting reading as obviously the game hasn't been so heavily promoted on those platforms (money?)

Missed another one

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/check_out_the_list_of_top_turnbased_fantasy_strategies_like_homm_and_heros_hour_b319f

Back when Hero's Hour was the spiritual successor to HOMM (shortlived though that was...maybe they didn't pay enough?)
Again, just speaking for myself, I couldn't possibly care less and I'm not fazed by this even one iota (except for the next couple lines), but what if this noticeably above-average advertisement, as seemingly annoying and infuriating as it may be for quite a few people actually contributes to selling copies of SoC through GoG to such a significant and considerable degree that it tops and exceeds sales of SoC through any of the other platforms?
We all (or at least most of us) want GoG to do well and continue to exist, don't we? If it takes something like overly aggressive advertisement (something GoG has done way too little of over the past years, missing out on sales over and over again because people weren't aware that game X is sold on GoG) to help keeping the lights on I'm all for it.
It's just for one game anyway and, again at least in my case, is easily ignored by just focusing one's attention on something else instead.

There's less than zero evidence for that, given that it's had a number of updates already. Is it inspired by HOMM, obviously; that's stated up front. Is it a rip-off, no, the mechanics are too different.

I'm glad that you're not fazed one iota because I'm not going to stop calling out spam whether it's by geralt (the nameless one) or by GOG's account.

Spam is spam. Saying the same thing over and over again to try and force people to believe it through repetition is propaganda, nothing less.

I'm not convinced.

You haven't played it, so you don't get a say in that. I have, and they are. Deal with it.
