In joint efforts with the original creators, Capcom, we’re thrilled to announce the re-release of the original Resident Evil™, the groundbreaking series that heralded the golden age of the survival horror genre!

This iconic classic is now available with all its original content intact, featuring quality of life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern systems. As part of GOG’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve classic games, Resident Evil is now available on the DRM-free GOG store!

Capcom's Resident Evil series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil™ 2, and Resident Evil™ 3: Nemesis being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. While Resident Evil set the stage, introducing players to the eerie Spencer Mansion and navigating them through terrifying encounters and intricate puzzles, its atmospheric tension and innovative gameplay mechanics laid the foundation for the series' success. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis successfully expanded the universe, delivering unforgettable experiences that deepened the franchise's lore and horror elements.

That’s not all, though – for the complete Resident Evil experience, we decided to invite someone special to tell us something more about the series. It’s Suzi Hunter, also known as TheSphereHunter! In an exclusive video, Suzi will introduce the history of the franchise and tell the story of its originals’ revival, while interviewing some of the most interesting figures that took part in the process – including GOG’s very own Technical Producer, Adam Ziółkowski, as well as Head of Business Development, Bartosz Kwietniewski. The video will go live soon, and you’ll be able to watch it HERE – so stay tuned!

That being said – Resident Evil is now live on GOG, DRM-free! You can also wishlist Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, or pre-purchase them alongside Resident Evil in a special Bundle – you wouldn’t want to miss this occasion!

RavenCrowwise: and may I ask for NOLF please..

Tarhiel: Preferably remastered by NightDIve, thank you :)
No need for that really, the abandonware 'revival' versions floating around the net prove that quite effortlessly.

* sigh * I will just send you my paycheck, GOG...

CMiq: I guess exiting the game via Alt+F4 is the intended way?
No, it's actually F9. Those PC ports of console games were crazy

Fonzer: I enjoyed the first pc version of RE4. At least i would not finish it if i didn't like it.
avatar
Foxhack: I have to ask. Do you mean the incredibly buggy Ubisoft release? >:)
Haha... with the update patch that you can find here from their official link for the European version of (Resident Evil 4) you can play very well. :P
Edit.- On the other hand, I'd love to see Ubisoft and Capcom's version of RE4 here in the GOG catalogue. It would be a great addition with all the flaws the game may have. :)
PS: Personally, I prefer the original Gamecube version (over any other). But since it was never released on PC, there's nothing left but to settle for the PS2 port (which is what we got on PC).
A hug! ;)

So, using Riva tuner and capping the FPS to 60 solved my speed issue. This might be a fix until GOG gets to it

I think I asked this earlier but there's supposed to be a discount in the RE1-3 bundle, right?

In my region, RE1 is $5.10, so I assume all the games are going to be priced the same... but the bundle is $15.13. That's... not much of a discount. :(

B1tF1ghter: I don't know about others, but on my geoip it shows Japanese audio as NOT available, on the store card.
So is it or not?
Never had a Japanese-dub.

Only starting from "RE / Biohazard Revelations".

Theoclymenus: Can you imagine PS1 players of Resident Evil back in the day complaining about lack of Achievements ? LOL. The all-pervading influence of Steam rears its ugly head again.
Technically there were also some PS1 / PSX-games with build-in achievement-menus:
One of the most obvious ones being "Digimon World (1) with the "Medal"-menu
( E.G. You'll need to progress 10-years or 300-days "Months? Are those delicious?!" ).

on my end windows 11 kept reverting my display settings after I lowered them to 60hz. i'm not sure why, but I fixed it with my gpu driver settings.

Same issue for my country...

I think the only ones actually getting the 17% discount are US gamers.
Normalprice: 9.99 USD
Bundle: 24.99 USD

I dont know if this is a failure or if GoG is ONLY considering US (maybe EU too, i dont know) and is making others believe "they get a discount as well".

For me it simply means, if GoG is not changing this policy then i will not buy the bundle... issue solved.

To be clear: I already get "unfair treatment" by generally paying higher prices all the time... but stuff like this is simply not fun anymore, guess reasonable.

Not sure what some complaints are in forums. Sure it's not the sourcenext version, but besides that, the game works out of the box for me. The only issue is gameplay being sped up which is fixed by capping FPS.

GOG did good job considering the original PC version was never a great port. Even adding some extra graphics options. I'm Playing on Windows 11 with modern hardware.

In Poland (so EU) there is discount: RE1 is 39.99 PLN and bundle is for 99.99 PLN.
OK, so it counts for US/EU at least but maybe no other locations.

In my mind this entire "local market thing" is a failure and is causing many unnecessary problems, no matter if "poor countries" may benefit from it... but if execution is bad it may not be the benefit many of us are looking for or... in my case... no benefit at all.

I would be better of just to use the "might-train" which is US/EU but this would not be considered legal, according to the self proclaimed rules, and on the other hand... i see no reason why it cant just work properly for everyone.

I mean, even PSN got such "marketing issues" because many markets are simply not supported. It is better to be united (hence world wide web, not local wide web) and reducing the complexity if, in any case... it can not be executed in a proper way. Indeed my personal opinion because the industry apparently does not care.

But why should i care... waste of precious time and energy... i simply will not support the stuff i do not enjoy, but in THIS case... it is only a market/marketing issue.

The game itself is great and i am very happy GoG and Capcom made it happen... we gamers surely are giving it a big "thumb up"!

Great that this is happening, I doubt my RE3 CD would work at this point, so now I know there will be a solution out there when that part finally gets its turn to be played.

I know about those, but it´s not the same as having a proper remaster, legally available with all the quirks and QoL improvements.
And it would help the game be available on consoles as well.
