In joint efforts with the original creators, Capcom, we’re thrilled to announce the re-release of the original Resident Evil™, the groundbreaking series that heralded the golden age of the survival horror genre!

This iconic classic is now available with all its original content intact, featuring quality of life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern systems. As part of GOG’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve classic games, Resident Evil is now available on the DRM-free GOG store!

Capcom's Resident Evil series has defined and revolutionized the survival horror genre, with the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil™ 2, and Resident Evil™ 3: Nemesis being standout titles that have captivated gamers worldwide. While Resident Evil set the stage, introducing players to the eerie Spencer Mansion and navigating them through terrifying encounters and intricate puzzles, its atmospheric tension and innovative gameplay mechanics laid the foundation for the series' success. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis successfully expanded the universe, delivering unforgettable experiences that deepened the franchise's lore and horror elements.

That’s not all, though – for the complete Resident Evil experience, we decided to invite someone special to tell us something more about the series. It’s Suzi Hunter, also known as TheSphereHunter! In an exclusive video, Suzi will introduce the history of the franchise and tell the story of its originals’ revival, while interviewing some of the most interesting figures that took part in the process – including GOG’s very own Technical Producer, Adam Ziółkowski, as well as Head of Business Development, Bartosz Kwietniewski. The video will go live soon, and you’ll be able to watch it HERE – so stay tuned!

That being said – Resident Evil is now live on GOG, DRM-free! You can also wishlist Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, or pre-purchase them alongside Resident Evil in a special Bundle – you wouldn’t want to miss this occasion!

NuffCatnip: I hope the other two games are playable out of the box for me.
I only had to play around with the files for a bit to get the game to work, it definitely wasn't too bad, but who knows if the same thing works for RE 2 or 3. :/
It probably will, but you never know.
What did you need to do? This information could be helpful for those who might also have problems.
This is great time to purchase the bundle and hopefully more to come with old classics

Had to install the japanese version, install the official 1.01 patch by Capcom (an executable) and replace the ddraw.dll with the .dll from the Classic REbirth mod. Both the patched executable and the DLL are available from this link:
https://classicrebirth.com/index.php/downloads/resident-evil-classic-rebirth/

All in all super easy, but it took me a while to find the cause of the error message when trying to launch the game. Wasn't familiar with the Classic REbirth mod until now.
Hopefully the offline installer gets patched, saw a couple others having problems running the game. :)

Will remove the link if a blue says posting it isn't allowed.

. . . . . .

^__________ Those are the marks my nose left in the dirt bowing before your presence GOG and Capcom!

Thank you for bringing back this classic!
Chaos Legion, and Breath of Fire III and IV. Please.

MysteryK: Chaos Legion, and Breath of Fire III and IV. Please.
I think Chaos Legion is actually a licensed game based off of a light novel (like Parasite Eve), so it's pretty unlikely to be rereleased.

That's quite a lot of additional work and files for a game that is supposed to be working out of the box. I agree that GOG should really take another look at it.

We need a new Breath of Fire, kinda comparable to the newest Dragon Quest, which was a huge success. Same can be done for a new big budget Breath of Fire...!
I’ve dreamt of this day since I learned of and joined GOG. I… I can’t believe they’re actually here. This franchise is so very near and dear to my heart that I’m still shocked to see I can buy them here. Thank you, GOG and Capcom! Please bring Dino Crisis 1 & 2 as well!
