I am looking for recommendations for Visual Novel/Choose Your Own Adventure style games. I have had a look both here and on steam and they seem to be mostly X-Rated except for a few such as LAT3 SHIFT which I enjoyed, that one has real video instead of DAZ 3D Models in various states of undress and positions.

I dont care how old the game is but I would prefer SCI FI and less Horror too please.
Try Ren'Py.

It's a free/Open Source visual novel engine with a database right on their website which clearly marks if the game is for mature audiances or not and has detailed notes about each submission.
not Sci-Fi, more magical realism, but try True Remembrance. not horror. not 18+. just a great one. and free!

Steins;Gate is a must. and it isn't 18+!

Yu-No is a Saturn version's remaster, so no explicit sex scenes left. but some leftovers are there. so on your own risk. but is a great one nonetheless. kinda Steins;Gate's mother.

also, Baldr Sky here is an all-ages version, so not 18+ as well. but I heard, sekai project being sekai project cut it down severely to fit into family friendly category.

ADD: almost forgot! XBlaze Code:Embryo and XBlaze Lost:Memories, a BlazBlue's prequel, fits to a T: Sci-Fi, not horror and not 18+, too.

The Complex,

Is sci-fi, played last year and is quite enjoyable.
If you are into (or would be into) Interactive Fiction, I would heartily suggest Vespers. by Jason Devlin.

It is easy to play interactive fiction (IF) games. There are executables that interpret the game, and you just download the game and load it.

Moreover, now there are apps for tablets and mobile phones that came with lots of IF games pre-downloaded, so one just has to download and play.

All these games are free.

If you want to try the concept with a short, sweet game, you would be fine with...

Give it a chance, it will only take minutes. And you will likely be hooked to these games! :)
Maybe you should try The Visual Novel Database.
https://vndb.org

They list thousands of games and you can use tags to find whatever you are looking for.
The general sci-fi tag alone finds over 3 000 games, and you can start narrowing from there using child tags.

People have complained that the site lists almost everything from Japan as visual novel, and that sometimes tags and such are not accurate and so on, but even with all that, it's probably one of the best resources you have about visual novels.

Also, I don't think Late Shift is a visual novel, it's FMV adventure. If you are looking for those kind of games, then it would be a topic for a whole new discussion.

And one more thing, if you are looking for something like choose your own path game books but in video game format, that's again its own thing. I used to have a good link about adventure books that have been turned into video games, but I can't find it fast now. But the information is out there.
