It will not let me buy free games to download them unless i buy a game too. Is there a way around this?

It would help if you mention what games you are talking about ? is it the Bethesda freebies Arena, Daggerfall and Battlespire or something else.

If the free item in question is a game's DLC, you need to own the base game before you can add it.
