fables22: The only way to have OSTs available is to have them listed as extras or DLCs. Sorry :(
avatar
JMich: No worries, I guess the details of what can and can't be sold is more complicated than I thought. But do ask them (or the legal department, whichever one is more likely to think of why that would work instead of why that wouldn't) if you could sell us DLCs without owning the base game (with all the required warnings of course).
I will do.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Can't say I'm looking forward to having the Broken Sword OSTs as separate products, and the only reason I can think of, given the lack of actual info on it, is that it may come with a different dev/pub. That, or its just one more thing to better accommodate the way GOG Galaxy is working/will be working.

avatar
fables22: Yep, can do for sure. We are only just working out how exactly the OSTs will be sold on GOG subsequently, so that's good feedback. Thanks!
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Emmm... does this mean that OSTs of other games may become separate entries in our libraries? Am I reading this correctly?

As for:

fables22: [...] We do, however, always try and keep things as consistent as we can, [...]
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Having been here for a few years now, allow me to say that the most consistent thing about GOG is inconsistency.
By saying "the OSTs" I thought I made it clear that I still refer to the two in question.

As for inconsistency - it's not hard to be consistent if you are the one making all the decisions. But you'll probably know for yourself that that's very often not the case in real life. All you can do is try and do your best with what's handed to you :)

HypersomniacLive: True, yet sometimes you need to try a bit harder. Take, for example, the mess the unbundling has caused in regards to naming the unbundled titles, and how that spread a number of collections all over one's library. Quite a few good, and not hard to implement, suggestions were made by users as to how to fix that, but as far as I can tell, they not only haven't been adopted, but we don't even know if they've been taken into consideration, and it's just a matter of it being #10,158 on GOG's TO DO list.
That's a fair point. Amongst all of the urgent and "things will blow up if this doesn't get fixed" stuff, a lot of community feedback gets pushed down on the list, which is a great shame. I'm hoping we can improve this, though. I'll take a note of what you're saying and pass it onto the relevant team, but that's all I can do.

Oh no, even I don't know if it'll get higher up on the priority list. But I will try.

Just an update on the situation - everyone, who has the two games with the OSTs should have the separate OSTs in their library by 12 AM CET. Please if anyone notices that their game hasn't been automatically added, do let me know in this thread. Thanks!

Empress_Owl: I personally don't pay much attention to OSTs when they are free, but... do you think people would buy them separately, as DLCs ?... :-| ... odd move from the developper.
Well ; at least (if I am not mistaken ?) we will keep them as a separate file on our shelves, right ? [edit : nevermind, just saw the answer above :-)]... that's something ; and it's always nice to be warned before it's effective indeed.
I still have a question : what about the games we bought before that change was decided, and which are not redeemed yet ? (I own a whole BROKEN SWORD bundle, and haven't found it a home yet...)
That is a good question. Let me check with product and get back to you on this.

EDIT: Just checked with product and they say that you should still have the OST, yes. The auto-redeem is based on whether or not you own the game, not whether or not it's been downloaded yet. So going by that, it'll be added to your library just like it would if you had downloaded the game already.

Empress_Owl: Nice... thank you for your answer, and reactivity !! :-)
It's alright. I get paid to be reactive :D

Empress_Owl: You mean, not (only) to listen to our constant laments ?! :-O
Yay ! where is the suggestion box...
So :
I vouch for the return of the (real) Insomnia sales !
and for the deletion of the forums (useless and flawed) "reputation" system...
And for some effective sanctions against the scammers, trolls... and other trouble makers, who made this formerly cool place a total mess...
Thank you, Santa !! ;-P
We have another thread for all this, I believe, but OK. Your feedback isn't anything out of the ordinary, so upvoting it on my "things to fight for" list!

221bBS: I got a little freaked out for a bit when I received an email titled "Your order #XXXXXXXXX is complete!" First reaction was, OMG someones stolen my identity.

Opened the email and found that I was charged $0 for a soundtrack. Glad I decided to take a quick look on the forum to see what was up. lol.
Hey, pheeew, must've been a shock! We tried to give enough of a heads up to reach as many existing owners of the game, but someone always ends up surprised.

blakstar: That'll teach me for not keeping up to date with all the news on GOG!

I was extremely confused as to why I was suddenly receiving an order notification in my email for an order that I never made -- now I know. :-)
avatar
foxworks: Indeed. Glad I read this thread first, or the e-mail this morning would have made me think someone was buying free stuff from my account. How dare they!
Yea! I was fighting for getting even more time prior to the auto-redeem happening, but a day and a bit was all I could be given. Hopefully there won't be too many freak outs :D
avatar
kbnrylaec: If I buy A and DLC of A, those DLC/OST/Extra will be listed under A.
I hope Broken Sword OST will work the same, just like other games with DLCs.
avatar
kbnrylaec: Nice. The auto-redeem process work as expected.
Owners will get an OST GOODIE under the game library.
I have not downloaded the new file yet, but I believe it is just the old soundtrack moved to a new directory.
(broken_sword_4_the_angel_of_death_secrets_of_the_ark_ost)
Yep, that's all it should be.
avatar
Tekkaman-James: I'm assuming GOG's support team has to do this by hand, so it may take a bit of time for them to get the free codes added onto each account that owns these games. Personally, I got the "receipt" for BS4 already, but haven't seen one for BS1. I'll give them some time before I start getting worried.
It's done by an auto-redeem script that averages roughly 7-10sec per user. The whole process doesn't happen in one go - it went on for most of the afternoon yesterday, but everyone should've got their emails by midnight CET last night.

Shadowcat: Likewise.

Thank you for your efforts here GOG (always appreciated), but as feedback for future reference:

1. Unexpected "you've just spent money without knowing about it!" email subject lines are alarming. Being aware of that in advance and (a) suppressing the purchase notifications if appropriate (in this case I think that would have been appropriate); or (b) sending some kind of calming companion email (subject line like: "We're adding the Broken Sword soundtrack to your account") would effectively avoid such alarm.

2. You have a Broken Sword forum :) That's the place that people were likely to look in order to find out what was going on... Perhaps you could have posted about this in there rather than in General, and not left it to the community to point out where the explanation was: https://www.gog.com/forum/broken_sword_series/broken_sword_purchase_out_of_nowhere/post5
Both good points. Learning curve for the future! Thanks.

staruszek: Why you cant add this info into the mail notification ?
I was surprised when i got the mail and didnt know what is happening. Would save some time.

This is absolutely on us, sorry. Next time you should get a neat message explaining what's what.

Barefoot_Monkey: That's a nice way of handling the situation. Thanks for letting us know, fables22
You're welcome. The least I can do, really.
avatar
Barefoot_Monkey: Don't suppose there's one last chance to buy BS 4 and get the soundtrack? (I don't expect so, but it doesn't hurt to ask)
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm afraid the OST bonus goodie was removed from the game at 2 PM CET, after the entire auto-redeem was completed.

Wuzi: I bought the games while the OST was still listed on the site (but as I know now after it was already announced that they would be removed). Initially I was able to download it, but now I no longer can and nothing has been added to my library.
Am I just unlucky having bought the games at just the wrong moment, or did the algorithm that gave out the DLCs just didn't catch me?
No, if the game was purchased while the OST was still a part of the deal - despite it being purchase after we've announced that it's being removed - you should still receive the OST a separate product. The reason you didn't is because the auto-redeem was initiated for the people who already owned it, and started shortly after the announcement was made. I'll look into getting it added manually onto your account - hang in there!

Edit @Wuzi - I PMed you the redeem codes, ping me a PM to confirm it's worked :)
