Hey everyone,

Unfortunately, as per the developer’s request, we will be removing the OSTs from a few Broken Sword games from GOG in the next couple days. The OSTs for Broken Sword: Director’s Cut and Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death have so far been a part of bonus content with the respective games, but will now (most likely) be sold separately. If you’ve bought either/both of the games, the OSTs will automatically be removed as bonus content from your library and replaced by separate products.

We’re really sorry for the inconvenience!

UPDATE: We are currently working out a way of having the OSTs available on GOG as separate products.

Smannesman: Ah I read as that current owners would get the OSTs as separate 'DLCs' instead of as a bonus.
avatar
P1na: If so, I'll retract my statement. But it wouldn't be the first time that we've had deleted content from bought stuff, so I jumped to that conclusion.
As I stated in the OP, the separate products will be added to the library of everyone who bought the games when they included the OSTs as bonus content. This'll happen over the course of tomorrow :)

P1na: I apologize then, I misunderstood. Ignore me, I'll go hide my shame on a hole over there.
It's alright! Please don't go hide!
If, by any chance, you've bought the game with the OSTs included and DON'T get your OST in the next couple days, please let me know so we can fix this!

Geralt_of_Rivia: But that reminds me of something.

There were two cases where a developer removed features from a game and tried to sell the features back to the customers via DLC.

One was Dying Light but that issue has been resolved.

The other was Vertical Drop Heroes which to my knowledge is still unresolved.

@fables22: An update to the Vertical Drop Heroes situation would be nice.

P.S.: See here for more information.
I will investigate what the deal is with Vertical Drop Heroes, if you'd find that helpful!

DeMignon: I'm very glad this is handled fair and square! Good decision to give it for free to owners of the game.
Well, they already own it, so taking it away from them would be super uncool. It's never great when things get to this point, but this is the best we can do.

Geralt_of_Rivia: Yes, please, that would be nice.

And while you are at it: What's holding up the Darksiders Warmastered Edition update? The patch notes for the latest version have been online since yesterday but there is still no trace of a new installer or patch.
One thing at a time!

(But I'll also investigate)

And now?

fables22: And now?

Geralt_of_Rivia: The patch is here now. Thank you.
It wasn't me - it was purely accidental! I just happened to investigate literally seconds after it went live. Glad it's sorted now ;)

Djaron: well, "goodies" in games sold here on GOG had become memories from the past already... Devs don't even bother just throing a few extra wallpapers/avatr picks (as a matter of principle) to be nice (as if promo pics or wallpapers were requiring them hard work)...

So no more goodies on most new GOG games, now devs/publishers also remove what was previously granted as well...

well if it goes on like this, i highly consider not buying OST on GOG and rather purchase the music directly from the composers, at least i'm sure game dev/publisher won't get undesserved share of the profit

also, honnestly, as you now plan to sell soundtracks as "separate products" i think music/soundtracks should not be game DLC (requiring the base game to purchase) but completely separated products (i mean: i can listen the music without my computer, and/or can listen to music i like from games i couldnt run on my machine, ergo would not purchase to begin with)

be sure to let the publisher here know how despicable we think they are
We're not yet sure how it'll pen out in terms of the OST being sold separately, but will let you know once we have a clearer idea.

HypersomniacLive: While I appreciate the heads up, and the OSTs not getting pulled for good from the accounts of those that already own the games, I don't appreciate Revolution Software's decision to sell these separately/ try and make money out of them when they've been part of the package for so many years. Heck, they even had the OSTs of Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2 in a Humble Bundle, FLAC version included, for about 1 USD.

HypersomniacLive: The case of Wasteland 2 tells a different story; we had to fight to keep the FLAC version of the OST, but we more often than not lose.
Well, a lot of the time, it's not entirely our decision. But we do always try and do what we feel is right.
avatar
Gydion: Isn't that exactly what it says? It's how I read it. Guessing this will also keep the original game ID.
avatar
moonshineshadow: I'm just wondering, because yes, that is what it sounds like, but at least for the games I have which have seperate soundtracks, the soundtrack is not a seperate entry in the library, it is found under the game extras.
That does apply to OSTs that were bought as game extras, yes. The two OSTs in question here will, however, be separate products now. As for the logistics and the whys, this is something that has been talked through between our product team and the developer, and the solution's been agreed upon and seen as most acceptable for both sides.

HypersomniacLive: I'm fully aware of this, hence why I focused on mentioning the devs/pubs.

Still don't see why they have to be removed and re-added as separate products though. To the best of my knowledge, DLC is added to the game, and not listed separately in one's game library, why is this case handled differently?
The in and outs of this were discussed between our product team and the developer, and this is the solution most acceptable for both sides, so hence why. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question per se, but the reality is that not all cases can be handled exactly the same way. We do, however, always try and keep things as consistent as we can, but we also have to be a bit flexible in the way we deal with things such as this.

JMich: Since you are going that way, could you suggest to the product team (and BizDev I guess?) to make the soundtracks separate products, but to not mark them as DLCs? That way, one could buy the soundtrack to a game without buying the game itself, in case some are only interested in the music.
I think there are also a few wishlist entries about that, though I never really cared that much about the soundtracks.
Yep, can do for sure. We are only just working out how exactly the OSTs will be sold on GOG subsequently, so that's good feedback. Thanks!

rtcvb32: For a moment I thought I had to hurry and download the extra content (which I should have already) or otherwise potentially lose it forever

Although worse comes to worse, could just listen to the OST's on Youtube...
No no, if you have the two games, you'll have the OST and should get them as separate products today.

omega64: Yeah, I've wanted this for quite a while.
I would've bought the Crypt of the Necrodancer OST's here instead of on Steam but you guys kinda forced my hand by making me repurchase the game here to do so.
It's a good shout for sure, and I will pass it onto the relevant people. As I said, sometimes, those decisions aren't entirely ours to make, but we can see what can be done for sure!

So, I checked this with product and, sadly, that's not something we are currently able to do. The reason being that we don't have a platform for selling music as such. The only way to have OSTs available is to have them listed as extras or DLCs. Sorry :(
