The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

Oooh this could get really interesting if a lot more games are added to this list!
Wow. This is one of those "too good to be true" ideas I never thought we'd see. Doesn't apply to me yet, but it's a fantastic gesture nonetheless.

deja65: And i cant even find my steam key for Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, really weird
It don't have a CD key
Great feature! I don't think i'll use it because most of my retail games are DRM-Free (that is "No Internet Connection Needed" but many of them have earlier version of SecuROM mainly used as a disc check) and a handful of them are using Steamworks so i don't think these would come here on GOG. (although i would like to so i can delete my Steam account together with those 8 games i have already!)..

And if these news came out yesterday, i would take it as the perfect April fool's prank, only it would be for real! :D

So, great move GOG & thanks!

amok: I can confirm that it works with the STALKER games on Steam.

Copy past the CD key from your steam page, and off you go.

Lokuas: I'm guessing you mean Library. Well, I right-clicked the games looking for "View CD-Key" but none of them had it. Where did you find them?
EDIT: Oh, nevermind. I see what you mean now. Had to switch to Detail View.
If there is a CD key, you can find it in the 'Links' section at the right

edit - i don't know my left from my right

Exactly!
Awesome work, GOG! :-)
Very nice handout. This has been someting I've been hoping that would happen.

And yes, I can confirm as well that this works with Steam version of Stalker: Call of Pripyat.
Cool. Except that I've already bought a GOG copy of any physical game I own available here. But hey, cool things are cool.
Since I actually got rid of my discs when I bought a GOG copy but still happend to have the CD key written down in my discards games list

Present for someone who doesn't own it

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl
CD Key: <sorry has now been redeemed>

It works I went so far as to see that it resolved, just didn't claim it as I own it already.

Enjoy.

I remember CD keys being somewhere in the game's folder or in registry (not sure). I'll try and see if I can find it.
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Great move, GOG!

I'm so glad that I can finally convert my German retail versions of the STALER trilogy to English...
Great idea GOG, well done!
