Holy shit, is my running joke about waiting for Warcraft 4 going to finally run out? Obviously it's just a "maybe", and even then we're years away from release, many years knowing Blizzard, unless it would get cancelled along the way, like many of their other exciting projects. So I guess I will get to "still wait for Warcraft 4" for quite a few more years either way. Still, it's more than I ever really expected.


Unless it turns out to be a MOBA.

Seeing as Warcraft 3 is my all time favorite RTS, even a 'maybe' is enough to get me super excited. However, if they deliver a totally cliche and forgettable story like in SC2, I will never forgive them :P

edit: I think that SC2:WoL (the only one I've played) has an excellent campaign, but I found it impossible to get involved in the lacklustre story, unlike in WC3

Well you are right about SC2:WoL! I played it when it came out and was really disappointed with story and specially ending!

But I gave in when SC2:HotS came out (since ZERG and Queen of Blades are my favourite things in SC) and bought it on day one and played it non-stop until the end and it was good, very good, surprisingly well told story, good dialogues in cutscenes and memorable moments both in game and cutscenes.
So, you should really give it a try if you liked SC and SC:BW and I think it's a bargian now on Battle.net (20 €) and I hope SC2:LotW will be even better! Enjoy! ;-)

Still to try out Starcraft 2. Those prices... ouch.

Considering what they did to both SC and Diablo, I sincerely hope this is just a rumor. Try the starter. But, IMHO, it's a crap game, they completely ruined the singleplayer game and the multiplayer is online only, so no network play and no LAN parties.

How do you feel they ruined the single player if I may ask? I finished all the campaigns of the original SC as well as Broodwar and I thought that SC2:WoL had highly creative and fun levels. I guess my only complaint, apart from the uninspiring story, was the lack of enough slower paced levels. That is levels where you could take your time to build up your base and think of clever ways to attack the enemy base. Most campaign levels in SC2, or several at least, felt comparatively rushed, in the sense that you had to be quick about completing the level. Not that SC1 got the balance of those kind of levels just right either. It had too many of them I think, which made certain expanses of the original campaign very monotonous.

I agree that the lack of LAN play is inexcusable.

Well, for one thing they chose to release it as 3 separate games, which means that I was stuck playing terans rather than protoss or zerg, which was really a point against it.

But, I think the real problem was that it just wasn't fun. They balanced the game for competition, which meant that the fun factor for the singleplayer just wasn't there for me any more.

Perhaps, I never liked SC as much as I remembered, but when I went back to play the original, it just didn't feel the same anymore.

It's why I still have not played beyond Wings of Liberty. I never liked playing Zerg, and the idea of paying for the Zerg campaing separately has killed my interest in the game.

Then again, truth be told, I never like StarCraft as much as Warcraft. I don't know why, it's basicall the same game in different decorations, but I never even finished the first Starcraft. I always get bored eventually, and before I ever return to it's a new PC, or I lost the hard drive or whatever, and I have to star over.

But Warcraft... hell, I've been waiting for it for years. It will be hard to kill my interest in that one. It still pisses me off that the stuff I really wanted to play through, like kicking Arthas' ass, happened without me in WoW. I always felt like WoW robbed me of something. I was there since Warcraft fucking Orcs & Humans, and suddenly the franchise got highjacked by the MMO crowd. It's about time there was a proper Warcraft for me again. I just hope I won't have to read a thousand pages of warcraft wikipedia to even know what's going on after all the WoW stuff.

After the crap they wrote for World of Warcraft and Diablo 3, I doubt a Warcraft 4 would be as good as Warcraft 3 TFT in regards to the story. I have low expectations.

I would buy WC4 if they do it right, I just don't have any confidence that they understand why those games worked. Just look at what they did to Diablo with that last one.

Granted none of the people who made those games were still working at Blizzard, but I do think that Blizzard is cashing in a bit too heavily on sequels.

I didn't care for WC3, it was a good game, but between the heroes and the other changes, it just wasn't as fun as the previous game was. WC2 was silly enough, without being too bad and there was a lot more focus on the action rather than having to level up certain units.

I did not though D3 was that badly written a story when I played it. And seriously I was expecting the worst, must bullshit reasons to continue the story after what happened in the end of D2 and I thought the story I got was alright.

Well, that's Blizzard alright! Their prices are not overrated from the beginning, but they keep them this way for long, very long and they have very rare discounts, so try to hit one since then games are 50% off!

For Example: I bought Diablo 3 on day one and it was 60 € and Reaper of Souls was 40 € and now D3 is 20 € but RoS is still 40 €
And old games are 10 € a piece (Diablo 2, LoD, WC3, WC3TFT) + SC:Anthology is 15 €
