As we are experiencing the shortest days of the year, fight the winter melancholy with a bit of heartwarming nostalgia, the opportunity for a good deed, new releases, and an early present! It's this week's special Throwback Thursday!

Not only are we suggesting a game, it even comes as the second out of GOG's four time-limited Winter Sale giveaways. I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream will be waiting for you as a merry gift until the 25th at 2 pm UTC. The 1995 sci-fi classic, co-authored by Harlan Ellison, writer of the novel by the same name, is famous for its gripping immersive mood, dark psychological writing, and appealing characters.

To make it even merrier, it is accompanied by a special Support Pack, available until 5th January, at 2 pm UTC, including two great classics, Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate and Darklands, for $5.99. All proceeds from the sale of the pack go to support The Video Game History Foundation, so learn more about them in our interview with their founder. And don't miss the special goodies that they have dug out from their archives, added to selected games on GOG, full list at the bottom!

Forget all about the winter chill with releases from Forthright Entertainment and comebacks Apogee Entertainment Inc - two RPGs in 1986’s Shard of Spring and its sequel, 1988’s Demon's Winter, and two platformers with 1991’s Crystal Caves and 1992’s Secret Agent.

The game was created by the legendary Harlan Ellison where he greatly expanded on the sci-fi universe he described in his story by the same name. 5 unique anecdotes to play through. If you loved the story then this game is a must.
By letting you make mistakes but punishing you for them, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream really makes you question your choices and watch your step. While you always hope for the best and have good intentions, just like in life, the outcomes of your actions in the game are usually much different than the ones you have expected. Very often, you are forced to do something you aren't happy with but it is necessary to progress the story forward.

Goodies, including concept arts and renders, were added to Anachronox, Daikatana, Gangsters - Organized Crime, Nox, Omikron - The Nomad Soul, Revenant, Thief The Dark Project, Tomb Raider 3, Total Annihilation, and Urban Chaos.

The Throwback Thursday series is done in cooperation with The Video Games History Foundation – a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and teaching the history of video games. If you want to support them, we encourage you to check their donation page. And if you'd like to see all the games in this ongoing series, go to its dedicated page.

BanditKeith2: Eh it atleast is or was common holidays often would be the times of most suicides would be stated in news papers and said by cops among others
Don't mistake anecdotes for facts. Reporters and cops talk more about holiday suicides because they are more heartwrenching, not because they are more common.

Other debunked "accepted wisdom"?
More ER admissions during full moons.
More deaths during the "darkest hour" of 3 to 4 am

They all sound intuitively like they make sense. We instinctively WANT them to make sense. They just don't bear up under scrutiny.

You missed what I meant .. I was saying do to in news papers and more noteworthy happening on holidays there is a a perception do to that rather then actual truth so its understandable to remark about that.. well that and its still in bad taste usually to give away dark or depressing sort of games during holidays that are perceived to have higher suicide rates even when its not actually factual

I get that. My point is that perception is not always reality. Maybe NEVER reality. Cf Fox News and quantum physics.

That's very cool. For some time it's felt like inclusion of "goodies" has been lacking (which I don't necessarily blame GOG for since, generally, they can pretty easily be found elsewhere, but it's still a nice touch).

In 2022, I'd encourage unhooking the DRM from single-player content here (namely CP2077's piggy map), updating the quality of the installers, working to ensure fewer 2nd class citizen games at least for important missing core patches, not worrying much about curation (if a game will likely sell well, in general I think you should accept it), putting Galaxy on the backburner (but you don't have to throw it all away like some people want), etc. IMO, there needs to be some shaping up on these fronts, otherwise you may well feel the heat from Zoom-Platform more than is necessary in the years to come.

The most depressing game given away[...]
Why not make conditions in the world better for people who are suffering, instead of taking away an amazing piece of art (which, may I add, can be cathartic to people)?

You joined GOG when you were 1?

When then I'd have got what you was saying if you hadn't came off as rather rude or abrasive in the reply prior to me on the remarks .. just saying to explain why your prior reply elected the reply it had from me

Sorry if I was rude, not my intent.

Thats fair hard to read tone or intent at times on the net.. I was just going off the most likily/most common way that one reply you sent is often used as for a rude and abrasive if not combative manner in most cases so ended up misreading the tone and intent

Or maybe get a better marketing team, and give away something like ...Scream at other occasion then X-mass.

You ...Scream, I scream...

I SO completely retract my apology. I'll BE rude, and say "word salad". In any language, your sentence structure is screwed beyond repair.

If you are going to retract you apology from prior then you actually intended to be rude, abrasive and the like in the first place so you was not sincere last time in saying it was not your intent.. After all one can be rude and such after without contracting a prior point of not intending to be
