I knew I had to buy skyrim, when it was dirty cheap :) Should do it next sale.
The best feeling of major accomplishment I felt recently from a game was when I finished 1st, just 0.06 seconds ahead, without any vehicle modifications, in the last race from the first career event in Riptide GP 2. It was like my 20 attempt and every time I was so close, but always finished 2nd, so after changing my strategy (nitro usage) and seeing it works the way it did felt awesome! :)
How could I forget about this epic moment from StarCraft! Music perfectly matches the cinematic. A great closure for the first trilogy! ;´)

One of the best sensations includes the one the OP mentioned: being a wizard with all the spells and power in the game's world, though not in the massively overrated and not even nice Elder Scrolls but in the massively loved and nice Final Fantasy worlds.

The other is beating a tough game and getting a much deserved ending. Freedom Planet on my first run of it and Super Hexagon after many failures are two that served me lately.
Guess I interpreted this a bit differently than others.

I'm afraid of heights (not terrified to the point of immobility/etc. just to be clear), so whenever I'm playing a modern first-person game with a big height differential between the character I'm controlling and the ground I get roughly the same sensation I would be getting if I were actually that high off the ground.

zeogold: Play The Stanley Parable. Don't ask questions, don't look up information about it. Just put your full trust in me and play it. I promise you, you will not be upset in any way.
Well, I will need to look up where to get the game, as it doesn't appear to be on GOG. :)

Me too. I don't get paralized but I get this sensation I'm being sucked down and begin to sweat like a pig, almost immediately. I remember having this in the few Spider man games I played and in the beginning, the best part of the game was jumping from Empire State and then start swinging. It happened in Mirror's Edge too.
Weird. I have the worst veritgo but I can base jump off the tallest buildings in gta and be the craziest mirrors edge runner no problem.

Some of the falls were a bit bone breaking when I landed though, ouch.

I can fly... oh shit.
I love side quests. I like the feeling of them. having the freedom to break from destiny to go do something right, put something small right, something that isn't wrapped up the important track of destiny that you are on but instead is something you chose to do, something you took a moment out for. they can be havens of a truth. or a beauty. or an interesting character. a fun moment. a secret. they're great they are.

I've been playing Skyrim recently. first time playing it on PC. all the little quests. they're really fun.

one thing I hope you can do in the next elder scrolls game while you're off just traversing the land is stumble upon somebody taking a dump in the woods and it starts a skyrim spoilers >> crazy side quest like the sanguine rose in skyrim.

beyond that, just in general, I like playing games because I like having the power to single-handedly put everything right. it's a great feeling. KOTOR spoilers >> walking around on korriban knowing you're Revan (I went there last), and masquerading as a sith and thinking, I'm gonna turn every single one of these snotnoses that I can. just walking around knowing you're gonna put the hurtin' on these sith bastards and fix this with a capital F and they're none the wiser, it's day 10 and they still think you're one of them. that was a great feeling. I think you can save like half of them. or two or three at least.

I also like it when games are funny but this doesn't happen enough. what made me laugh in a game recently? I can't recall now dammit.
In racing game I love starting at the back of the pack, having to really work to reach the front. Immensely satisfying.
I've reached a point where I don't even bother qualifying in these games, starting at the bottom by default.
Completely dominate your opponent in a RTS without rush tactics.

It's Steam-exclusive as far as I know.
