It's probably a couple of months ago now, but I bought a bunch of DRM-Free games from Humble.

One of them failed the MD5 check, so I notified Humble Support.

And we had a toing froing of emails ... and then nothing after promising to forward the issue to the relevant body.

Now, it isn't much of a game and didn't cost me an awful lot, but how hard is it to replace their installer file with an uncorrupted version. They must have such a version, for which the MD5 is correct.

I did several downloads using different browsers and a downloader as well, and they all resulted in the same corrupted file, as determined by a check with 7-Zip ... plus failing the MD5 check of course.

It certainly seems they've got my money, and now they don't really care.

I probably should have asked for my money back, back that wasn't what I wanted, so I've held out and then gotten distracted by life and overlooked the issue for a while, maybe for too long now. I also got a Steam Key and claimed that, so a return was always going to be problematical.

I've also thought about contacting the developer or publisher, and seeing if they can fix the issue at Humble.
I don't want to sound pessimistic but I think HS is beyond saving. Which really sucks as it was once a great place to pick up bundles of awesome Indies for both PC and android.
Well for me, that bundle aspect has never really appealed, as I want guaranteed DRM-Free.

So I've only gone to Humble for the free games now and then, which have been very thin on the ground this last year or so, or their DRM-Free games, of which I now have a good number, some only available there, not here at GOG or the ZOOM Platform.

I'll support anyone who does true DRM-Free legally.

But you've gotta be able to trust them. I've even avoided them because of this corruption issue. I'm not buying anymore games from them until they win my trust back. That means not risking even looking at what they have on offer now.

I did make one DRM exception, and buy two Total War games from them real cheap, which were Steam Keys.

At least they still have good drm-free books bundles, especially technical ones.

I've been steering clear of them for a few years. I bought Black Hole there, DRM-free with a Steam key I didn't use, but shortly after I bought it they changed it to be Steam only without warning. I demanded a refund and did get one but they've burned that bridge.
Humble has been out of the DRM-Free store game for years now.
They are basically a steam key seller (legal though)

So I backed up my DRM-Free stuff from them years ago, I havent checked if its been updated or maintained.

Wow, that is pretty absurd. I buy from Humble for a variety of reasons but they've been losing my respect as of late. Twice in a row, they required phone verification for me to buy games (which makes no sense given the fact that I was using the same card as I always use) and each time, the verification apparently wasn't enough and I had to wait for a staff member to manually check, which took days. I entirely missed out on a bundle I wanted because of that garbage.

Yes, as others have said, Humble was once a source for DRM-free games, but they abandoned that mostly and decided to become a key reseller.
Come on, don't you guys know that hiding all the DRM-free products in a corner and selling a larger number of DRMed games is progress? It's like you purists want them to fail! The only problem with Humble is that they don't have their own client to link up with GOG Galaxy so that the Scheme keys from Humble could simply be bought on a new store app. Now that would be conveeeenient.

Sarcasm aside, yeah, I can't really rec Humble Bundle. I feel like supporting them is close to supporting Scheme. DRM-free games are imo confusingly marked. In one case years ago, I had purchased one only to find out the DRM-free version was simply a demo (I assume the "real" version was the one from the Scheme key that also came with the purchase). To Humble's credit, I got a prompt refund, but still, it soured me.

So long as it’s “optional”.

As for humble, they haven’t been any good in years. Dubious installers, no updates. I still occasionally pick up the book bundles, but that’s it.

From all of the bundles I bought, it wasn't very many that had updates after the day I bought and downloaded them. Some of the games had the installer name changed from xxxx.exe to xxxx.bundlename.exe. Indie Royale pretty much always had updated installers, until they died. Indie Gala had seemingly more games that were updated.
It must be said, that Humble have over 1,400 DRM-Free games and of the 20+ I paid for, I've only had a corrupted download just this once.

So they may well be worth getting DRM-Free games from still, provided for me at least, they can restore the trust.

They certainly have a lot of the games that GOG provide, some even cheaper. I got Botanicula that way. They also have a good number of games that GOG don't have, like Carnivores.

Of course, like many stores, a lot of the other DRM-Free is Indie based games, which you can grab from various stores DRM-Free.

Humble are clearly not a dedicated DRM-Free store though, and their lack of fixing my issue would seem to indicate they don't much care, and probably provide DRM-Free games as mostly just a lure to get you interested in them, hoping you will gravitate to buying their DRM goodies (baddies).
what is md5 check?
You do realise that they also sell random steam keys That need to be manually verified in the steam client it's turning into a massive joke yeah RANDOM keys could be anything FFS yeah I like knowing what I'm getting!

Truth007: what is md5 check?
It's a manual checksum that verifies if you got the correct files or not!

Timboli:
Oh don't worry Tim Gamefly did a similar thing to my TES4 Oblivion GOTYE deluxe install where I got all the game files bar the DLC the DLC is actually the DLC to borderlands FFS! Not TES4's DLC but borderlands DLC they totes screwed it up and wouldn't accept the blame they can go suck a lemon, So my D2D files somehow got mixed up with borderlands and THEY WON'T FIX IT totally broke my game too!

SO sick of being DICKED around by people!
