paladin181: What is Battle For Wesnoth?
A very good freeware strategy game, with many units, several campaigns, a basic but solid gameplay, graphics that are simple but surprisingly good for a non-commercial game... If you're into turn-based strategy, try it, you might like it. :)

Hear him, hear him. +1

The combat model is quite unique as it's quite explicitly probabilistic - that alone is quite interesting and I don't recall seeing elsewhere.

For the narrative oriented, the campaign / scenario design is solid fantasy fare. Nothing much super original, but well implemented.

So yeah, if you're into turn-based strategy, it pretty much hits on all cilinders.
Awesome game this. I found it in a freeware Linux package, and have played it for quite a while

I'd love for more development to go into it, and I'd pay for it if it came here, just to support it.

Voted for it on the wishlist!
Actually it's not a bad move. You need exposure if you want more people to play your game. Small sites don't cut it. I have Birthof the Empires on itch.io and on Google Play. In 2 weeks it got a whooping 11 downloads from itch.io while in the same timeframe about 250 on Google Play. I'm almost inclined to release on Steam also, but atm. I don't want to shell out the Greenlight fee.
Are we sure this isn't just some joker posting it on the site?

Does Wesnoth have a non-commercial licence?

Is BotE freeware or ad (/mal o.O) ware on GooglePlay? It looks like something I couldf enjoy on my android but I'm quite wary in regards of permissions - Is there a way to enable saves without Full Access to storage and Media :/ ?
I have heard a lot about this game! One of the very few games that got success with open source. Never played it, though ... turnbased RPG'ish combat just didn't appeal to me.

I haven't downloaded anything from Sourceforge since they decided on that malware business model. So it sounds like a good idea that the Battle for Wesnoth devs looks for an alternative file hosts - gog or steam or whatever.

It's completely free and open source. The media access is only needed because of some of google's own bugs. But the game doesn't touches anything outside its data folder.
Battle for Wesnoth had official release on Steam 4 days ago.

Have hope that we'll see it on GOG as well (sooner or later).

I know, it's released as DRM-free since beginning, but still, it would be nice to have it here as well.

Is there any differences between the steam version and the one from their website?

According to their/developer's FAQ, there are currently no differences:

According to their FAQ, there is required for MP creating account, but it's mandatory for all versions (aside from the fact, that steam version has no differences from "normal" one) with newest patch.

(so as mentioned already in this topic - steam's release is only for "increasing audience" of this game).
