I don't get it, how can learning a language make you able to see into the future?
I joined Rosetta Stone and after studying the first disc was able to tell that in the future I was going to be cancelling my subscription.

I think it was mentioned that the language you speak determines the way you think. And those aliens didn't perceive time as a linear thing. So, learning their language was making you think kind of out of time. Or something like that.

Magically, obviously.
On another note, I love these first-contact alien movies where the aliens are peaceful and the film has a happy, optimistic ending (like Contact with Jodie Foster), any other films like this?

I love Starman. Not a movie I expected from Carpenter, but I really love it. Bridges is fantastic. 2010 The Year we Make Contact should probably be there too, and The Abyss.

Star Trek First Contact maybe? It's drak and full of fighting Borg, but it is after all about makingfirst contact with a peaceful race and ushering in an age of prosperity.

Also, I probably mentioned this already, but I fucking hated Contact :P
