zeogold: There's an unofficial trading thread which the dude above me linked you to, but it's worth mentioning that you're going to have some SERIOUS trouble trying to trade System Shock 2. How can you expect to get anything in return for a game which literally everybody here can get for free?
You're honestly better off just giving it away.
JohnJSal: lol, that didn't even occur to me! I think the code expires after the sale, though, doesn't it? So I can't really save it for later...
It does not. There are (at least) two types of codes:
-
bonus codes: time-limited promo tokens which can grant you a discount or a free game, typically short; and
- store inventory
gift codes, which act like store products you bought as a gift, typically 20 characters long.
Permanent gift codes are associated with a store order and show up in your
order history along with your other purchases. Bonus codes are emailed, or, if acquired with a game, appear in your Library under "serial keys"; they do not appear in the order history.
Finally, you can go to the
Redeem page and try a code there to see when, if ever, it expires. Warning: this can (shouldn't, but totally can) invalidate your
bonus code. It will at worst block your
gift code for 15 minutes (press Cancel so it doesn't). Anyway, if you try this with System Shock 2, you'll see it expires "NEVER". So there's that.
