Hi i just wanted to ask. I use to play a lot of gog games. I recently came back after a year of not using gog and picked up some games in the sale. So are foreign transaction fees normal in the uk now. I have never noticed them previously . And they do add up.

Bank related charge. You should be able to change the currency to Pounds though to avoid that.

It may be unrelated to the currency. Even though I'm in the US and get charged in dollars, I get a foreign transaction fee on certain of my cards since the charge is placed in Cyprus.

Depending on how your foreign transaction fees work, it might be advantageous to buy more games at a time. (For example, during a sale, wait for the inevitable last day with everything on sale and buy all the games you are interested in one transaction.)

As said, you might not have done it in Pounds. But if you used a different card than usual, that's probably why.

For me, I pay a foreign transaction fee if I pay with my Bank of America credit card. Whereas, no fee's with my Chase or Citibank card.

My bank wouldn't care. It just has a 1.5% charge on every transaction coming from "foreign territory" whatever the currency. The only difference is that GOG does not update the currency conversions so often while my bank would use the actual rate of the day.

That's why the introduction of regional currencies on GOG didn't improve anything for me.

Iam going to speak to the halifax bank this afternoon for a clear answer. It not actually the minimal fee that bothers me. I just find it a similar issue to when cash machine charges. That why i dont use them.

Even for other EU countries using the Euro? That would be questionable given they could be seen as a charge on trading with some parts of the EU rather than others. I can see they might have (very small) costs if there were different currencies though.

Yes, definitely. It's the condition of the card. I don't have any basic fee per year, and I don't pay much by credit card, so overall it's not much. But now that I think about it, you're right. It is kind of discriminating.

I should try paypal with € on GOG. That may be a way to circumvent the fee. I remember from the past that paypal uses an unfair conversion rate (about 1.5% unfair) so that it almost exactly comes out the same but with the € prices on GOG it might work without a fee.

Anyway the irony is that GOG converts everything to Polish Zloty and Euro when making their annual financial statements. So a lot of conversions going on back and forth behind the scenes.

It was because i paid in euros. When i told my bank you are aware we are in europe. Iam a european buying european goods they just refunded my £4.00. odd. Although the person i dealt with had heard of gog and said it would be adreesed in the new year. it seems to be a bank policy. Although we all live in the euro?
But yea my fault.

Aren't there banks with cashback credit cards in the UK? They are the greatest invention ever.
