I believe what you're referring to is the problem at the very high shader setting with one of the shaders that the game uses. I think that was a problem with GPU drivers, not actually the machine. With my HD 7870, it was briefly fixed before occurring again. There's certainly very little discernable difference between the high and very high shader settings.
It's also a game that benefits from strong per-core performance on modern CPUs, so you'll have problems running it on lower-end quad-core or 8-core CPUs, for instance. It struggled on my Phenom II X4 920 (2.8 GHz, overclocked to 3.2 GHz back then) but strangely ran better on a dual-core Athlon II X2 260. I now have an FX-8350 (4.0 GHz) and it runs much better again.
Anyway, just checking to see if the very high shader setting problem is fixed, although I don't know if it'll clash with my Origin installation.
