gog2002x: I went back and read some of the reviews and I guess it does draw on JRPG elements.

Guess you can cross this one off then.

dtgreene: It's off of this list, but it's still a game I'm likely to play at some point. Interesting to hear that it's short (but is it <8 hours?).
I'm an idiot. I apologize. That's what I get for trying to be helpful when I'm tired. It seems the game is pretty linear, so likely does not have any replay value. It still has a good fun value.

Next time I try to be helpful, I'm going to make sure I have plenty of rest lol.

I will take a look later and see if anything in my game library does meet those criteria...after I get some sleep. :)

A game doesn't need to be nonlinear to have replay value. One could, for example, try different party set-ups. (SaGa 1 is a good example of this; you can use any combination of up to 4 characters with 3 races to choose from, then there's different equipment and monster forms.)

Those elements you mentioned are certainly in the game. Well, hopefully you will enjoy it whenever you get around to trying it out.

Right now I'm caught up in my own facination with a certain freeform space rpg game lol. Thankfully it's also free and DRM free courtesy of the developer(s).

Not sure about some of the game mentioned here. I do think that Age of Decadence is great, felt a bit clunky at first, but then I totally got sucked into the world, but I remember it to be longer. Also, I would maybe not call it fast paced.

I also played through Shadowrun Returns, but I remember that game to be extremely linear with very little extras even on this already linear path. In comparison to Shadowrun: Dragonfall it felt more like a proof of concept and then they somehow had to wrap it up (which might be the case anyway). Anyhow, it is recognizable a WRPG and fast paced.

This is not exactly fitting the request, since these are not WRPG's, but I wonder if they might fit that request anyway:

There is Unrest which is more of an adventure with various short storylines in an RPG-ish setting.

King of Dragon Pass which is described as a mix of RPG and strategy with a bunch of choice and about 8 hours per run.

If you are in the mood for some turn-based combat with moderate debt, I actually had a good time playing Gorky 17.
