I see that build 33 has recently been released, and it sounds like the game has come a long way from build 31 which is the only build I ever played. How are you finding it? It seems that it's more difficult now. I stopped playing build 31 because, even though it's murderous in the beginning, it became way too easy to survive eventually. Specifically, zombies didn't seem to at all return to areas which I had cleared, and as soon as I realized that the feeling of constant danger dissipated, which was part of the great fun. However the reason I stopped playing was because I reached a point where I thought I could survive indefinitely with sustenance farming. I would've also liked to reach the big mall or warehouse, but it was just so incredibly far away!
I do have another question: how severe is winter in the game? One of the best parts of Don't Starve is the rush to get everything ready for winter, which itself transforms the landscape and makes it far more deadly.

I'm severely tempted to get back into it again, but I think I will wait at least until the new animations have been included, such as sneaking and walking with a backpack. A bicycle would be nice too, to help with traversing the gigantic map. And of course, npcs :P

I bought it back on Desura years ago and played it obsessively for about a month. My first run I managed to keep my guy alive for 2 solid months before some jackass NPC busted into my building and drew zombies into it, ruining my safehaven. I couldn't get that place back under control after that. I haven't played any of the newer builds, but I do think it's an awesome and fun game.

This was the video that originally got me into it :

I'm a PZ owner, that's as close as I get.

Lol, same here, bought it for me and a friend, played some games (including one where we cheated so that we could spawn close to each other... turns out that the coordinates for spawn that i picked was inside a locked storeroom so we couldn't get out) but meanwhile his graphic card died and we haven't played it since then.

It has been... more than a year, so yeah, i hope that something changed.

Oh wow that's clearly quite an old build. I don't think I've seen one from that long ago. It almost seems like a different game. I can definitely relate to the panic of being caught by the nighttime though :P Once I was busy raiding the hundreds of lockers and desks in the high school and completely lost track of time. I ended up frantically running through the rapidly darkening hallways trying to find a place to spend the night. I ended up spending the night in the most secluded part of the school I could find: a wooden bench in the corner of one the gymnasium shower rooms. The next morning I got up, probably with a wasted back, and ate some potato chips I found in the cafeteria for breakfast. Awesome experience :D
I played the very first (paid) release they put out, which makes it almost five years or so ago?
There was only one city block and it looked like that video.
I might have to check out the progress some day.

This is what the map looked like last time I played, at least, it's what I think it looked like. I only got through a small part of it:

This. I'm waiting for it to get a full release in order to enjoy it. There will probably be a real zombie apocalypse before PZ gets a full release though.

I don't recognize any of that :P

Blimey! I've been playing it for... maybe two years now and NPCs got taken out shortly before I got it - though they should be returning soon.

Really enjoying build 33 so far - though the lack of NPCs is still annoying (particularly with the newly added walkie talkies etc). I did find in sandbox mode I had to tone down the zombies a bit - the defaults had them spawning too highly for me (I prefer to experience things with them increasing over time).

Edit: nearly made a thread on this myself the other day actually... but just ploughed most of the day into PZ :D

Yeah, I keep the old version I have around; ~25 I think. It's newer than the video I posted, but it's far out-of-date from the current build. Mainly just because it works in a consistent fashion from what I'm used to and plays fine. I've encountered very few game-breaking bugs actually and it's fun enough to hold my interest. Granted, I played it more when I first got it, but when Halloween rolls around, I play it for a bit.

All the new features mentioned come with the cost of eliminating some of the features I like. Initially, on the play I mentioned earlier, I didn't even know there were NPC's. They only cropped up later into the game. Prior to that I had never seen one. I liked the way that unfolded. It kept me on my toes...

I'll probably try a newer build at some point just to see if I like it any better. Honestly though, I wasn't fond of the new lighting model in some of the newer builds with smooth gradation in light from the source. I liked the clearly grid-based lighting from the video I posted. It kept with the retro aesthetic of the game.
