Gede: Age of Wonders 3 seems to be a lost cause. But QUBE 2 got me a "perhaps later" answer. (snip)
...
Even if they don't go to the trouble of revisiting their older games, maybe they will take Linux into better consideration with their newer games.
While it is nice to know I am not alone in trying to get AoW3 to Linux here, I really do not like hearing that it seems to be a lost cause. Did they give any reason for it? It is good to hear you got a "perhaps" on QUBE 2. I have not had a response as of yet but perhaps having another interested inquiry will help. Like you I am hoping that having more players asking for Linux ports will make devs think about Linux compatibility from point of concept with their future games.

Thanks adamhm for another great giveaway drawing attention to the fact we can at least ask and let devs/distributors know there are those of us out here who would like to buy their games if they were offered Linux compatible.

I got no reply to my inquiry regarding Age of Wonders 3. Looking at the discussion I found online regarding this subject, I really don't expect Triumph Studios to change their position.

Enjoy your games, people!

Ah. I had thought if they had given a reason or even a response then there might be a chance to work it around. Oh well. Thanks for the answer anyway.

They did present a justification, IIRC. Something regarding Steam's SDK for Linux. I'll look this up... HERE:
aow.triumph.net/forums/topic/linuxmac-no-gog-support/

And that did not change:
aow.triumph.net/forums/topic/linux-version-in-gog/

I'm not sure what that SDK provides, or if it would be possible to build a replacement for it (like adamhm did for QUBE) that would provide minimum functionality.
I think for many games it's already been more or less confirmed that the lack of Galaxy for linux is the excuse for not releasing linux versions here. I don't know what the deal with Metro 2033 could be though. Of course GOG never communicates *sigh*

Thanks for the giveaway Adam. And thanks to whoever is still patient enough to pester the publishers & devs about Linux releases on GOG.

I thought “what the hell…” and sent an email Triumph Studios. They had this to say:

Thanks for contacting us.

Sorry there are no plans for this. You can find the explanation here:

Gede:
Which is pure bollocks, his "standardized dll's" comment refers to the Steam-Runtime which can be used outside of Steam, including non-Steam games. From a library of over 350 games this remains the only one where I don't own all the DLC's and Expansions.

The Steam-Runtime is a collection of libraries (.so files), most of them based on Ubuntu 12.04. It serves as a distro-agnostic solution for Valve / Steam games.

For the record: Grim Fandango Remastered packs a whopping 366MB of Steam-Runtime libraries in the GOG version (not GOG's decision believe me), ironically being a 32bit only game the devs even included the 64bit libs, 180mb right there wasting space and bandwidth.

Toxic Games told me, regarding the first QUBE:
It takes time to port to Linux and do testing and bug fixing. This all takes resources which are currently occupied by the launch and PC, console versions
I read this as a diplomatic no.
