The DRM-Free Revolution Continues with Big Pre-Orders and Launch Day Releases!

Good news! GOG.com is going to bring you more fantastic launch day releases, preorders, and other exciting new content from some of our favorite developers. We've lined up 3 big titles that we will be bringing to GOG.com in the next couple of months for sale or preorder that we think will be hits with all of our gamers; and we have more equally exciting games coming up soon.

If you've been a member of the site for a long time, you may recall that when we launched sales of The Witcher 2 on GOG.com, we had to add in regional pricing. The game cost different amounts in in the US, the UK, the European Union, and Australia. We're doing something like that once again in order to bring you new titles from fantastic bigger studios. Since we don't accept currencies other than USD on GOG.com right now, we'll be charging the equivalent of the local price in USD for these titles. We wish that we could offer these games at flat prices everywhere in the world, but the decision on pricing is always in our partners' hands, and regional pricing is becoming the standard around the globe. We're doing this because we believe that there's no better way to accomplish our overall goals for DRM-Free gaming and GOG.com. We need more games, devs, and publishers on board to make DRM-Free gaming something that's standard for all of the gaming world!

That brings with it more good news, though! As mentioned, we have three games we're launching soon with regional pricing--two RPGs and a strategy game--and while we can't tell you what they are yet because breaking an NDA has more severe penalties than just getting a noogie, we're confident that you'll be as excited about these games as we are. For a limited time, we will be offering anyone who pre-orders or buys one of them a free game from a selection as a gift from GOG.com, just like we did for The Witcher 2.

If you have any questions, hit us up in the comments below and we'll be happy to answer (to the best of our ability).

EDIT: Since we've answered a lot of the common questions already here (and lest you think that we've ignored you), it may be handy for you to check out the forum thread about this and search for staff answers by clicking this link here. (hat tip to user Eli who reminded us that the feature even exists. :)
Regional pricing is never a good with. As someone living in Australia we get screwed by it contently. I just hope you did your best to fight against it.

Is it impotent not to have DRM but regional pricing is still bad.

In the mean time will you be offering discounts to people who have to pay more like you did for the Witcher 2?

scampywiak: Until all online stores are DRM free, this isn't exactly the case.
As I said before. How can they enforce regional pricing without DRM? Else I can always use a proxy.

MaceyNeil: no his 'accent' as you misused so eloquently instead perhaps the word focus/focal point is being a whiney entitled bitch because the deal is less in his favour in a monetary way.
This being proven by him saying he wants to take his money elsewhere (assuming no way to get around region locking); to which i reiterate 'WHAT ELSEWHERE?!?'
You have a choice GOG or Steam; but i suppose that's a little too cut and dry you 'could' buy from origin (which is essentially steam by anouther company) or switch to being a console gamer (which will soon probably have exactly the same problem).

Drakosha: Wow. If I don't accept being screwed over then I'm entitled whiny bitch? Well, thanks for clarifying! Sorry, gotta go and please my corporate overlords, being too entitled here!
Hey that's your options don't like them the world don't care. Reality is what it is and if you can't handle reality theres plenty of mind altering drugs to piss your life up the wall with.

rmuchall: If there was any other alternative then I would no longer purchase from GOG at all.
But what choice do we have now?
I can think of no other online store that has a "One world, one price".
Does anyone know of any GOG alternatives?
avatar
blotunga: Amazon ;). And GMG was one (RIP GMG).
GMG was never an alternative. Cut price Steamkey reseller floating a few older games on their Crapsule service. Hardly drm free
avatar
gbaz69: I huge ass list, reddit has most recent active discussion on it. I think this is the link

So if you traded for gifts lately, and have not all ready added them to your gamelibrary (aka sitting in your invetory),
those games in invetory may have had locks placed on them (even if purchases years ago).

Niggles: Banner Saga had a region lock at one point? got to be kidding me...
Still reading the thread but this was a temporary flag change in the database that affected 10 or so games and was reverted a few hours later. Probably a mistake

Been wondering about that myself.

On the price side it was an alternative. It had at least USD prices.

If you liked Steam DRM. Seriously lame 20-30% off vouchers. Their only marketing deal.

Wow.

Really, GOG?

Just, wow.

I have no words.

No wait, I do have some words, actually. The reason I have spent so much time here since you started this fantastic business is that you were NOT like all the other DD sites out there. You had principles and you stuck by them. You truly cared about your customers in a way that no other digital retailer did. Every other service appeared to be run by corporate suits, but not yours. Well, those days are obviously over. You may as well just drop the pretense and start selling only Steam keys.

I sure hope those suits feel good.

Well GOG's future isn't too bright either. I'm willing to bet that after regional pricing DRM will come into play. Unfortunately "quitting" is not really an option as it is nice to have the library safe. But probably I should begin to backup my games.
If any of y'all are on reddit, we'd love to hear from you.

MaceyNeil: Go ahead buy from steam then :)
avatar
daveistooshort: That's sort of the point though isn't it. I mean why not buy from steam if GoG is just going to do the exact same thing?

As someone from the US you probably don't appreciate how aggravating it is to often have to pay close to double the price for the same product, since you're never on the receiving end of such things.
Actually i'm an Aussie and have been against steam from day 1, in fact returning retail games based on the fact.
(why we now have proper labelling in most cases for these steam product and lately no doubt the move for retailers like EB games to change their return policy on online activation based games to a verbal agreement at purchase that you won't be able to return [that probably isn't worth shit when you have actually read Australian consumer law like I have; but try taking it to court, sure waste thousands of dollars for a ten dollar game]).

Fact of the matter is something is only worth what your willing to pay for it. if you don't pay for it they can either adjust their pricing to a range where it becomes of equal value to that which your parting with or as the owners of a product they can elect not to care about selling to you.

Well, how did they do it with Witcher 2? Because that game was DRM free.
