tinyE: I want to see Prometheus once, but, and this is an indication that my anti-depressants aren't working, I'm sitting here visibly upset and unable to concentrate because I fear I may not be able to see it before the new one comes out. :P
The new one is still moths away, and besides you don't have to see it as soon as it releases :P If you didn't run to the theatres to see Prometheus, why would you now need to see the sequel when it comes out, instead of months later?

EXACTLY! And that's why my pills aren't working. :P That stupid movie is going to be on TV 10,000 times before the new one even hits theaters, and here I am worrying about it. XD

And on topic, these movies for me are like the Star Wars movies. Phantom Menace and Clones were unqualified pieces of shit but I still love them because they are Star Wars movies.

Which is funny, because a lot of people (myself included) would hate them a lot less if they weren't :D

Breja: I'd go with Spoony's review (no idea why the original upload is gone), but I imagine they all cover pretty much the same ground. It's quite incredible just how bad the script for that thing was. Pretty much tailor made to be torn apart stupid moment by stupid moment.
I'd be willing to forgive the movie's other flaws if it did a better job explaining some key plot points -- like why the Engineer does what he does at the beginning of the film, and just what exactly the "Black Oil" is supposed to actually be. From what I understand the "Director's Cut" does address the first issue, but what about the Black Oil? If it's supposed to be a mutagenic bioweapon, then why is it used to supposedly create life on earth? And for that matter, why on earth would you develop a bioweapon that doesn't actually kill its victims, but at best turns them into zombies, and at worst makes them give birth to hentai tentacle monsters?

And don't get me started on how the Engineers are supposed to be genetically identical to humans.

But I'd be willing to forgive even those issues if Scott came clean with a clear vision of what he wanted Prometheus to actually be. He originally said it wasn't supposed to be an Alien prequel, even though it looked, sounded and felt like it clearly was. It clearly wasn't intended to be a stand-alone film because of all of the clear tie-ins to the Alien universe. It wasn't a side-story because it involved a plot element that was central to the Alien mythos. So perhaps Scott intended it to be a soft-reboot of the franchise.

How much of a mindfuck would it be if it was actually the same black oil from the X-Files? Because it actually kinda is. It infects, takes over the host and has an alien monster gestate inside and then burst out. It all fits. The Well-Manicured Man from the X-Files said that the virus was the original inhabitant of this planet.

I just blew my own mind- X-Files and Alien are all set in one universe.

Meh. I was excited with the first trailer because it kinda got an old Alien wibe. But now with more connections to Proetheus and all that creator bullshit it's not that interesting to me anymore. Prometheus was bad, why can't we get intense claustrophobic sci-fi horror thiller that Alien franchise deserves.

I think the exact opposite :)
Remember when Scott was all time saying the sequel to Prometheus would barely connect to Alien?

And to think if not foro him we'd be getting 3&4 retgonned...

To each his own I guess. I just want another Alien movie set on a spaceship or some other "small" structure with a handful of people fighting the Alien. Like first two movies. They were more thriller than horror, they were intense troughout the movie and the Alien was frightening and had aa upper hand til the end of the movie.

This looks like an entirely different movie. But didn't Prometheus pretty much establish beyond any doubt that the Engineers are all a bunch of a-holes who would like nothing more than to wipe out humanity with horrible messesd up biological weapons? Why would they go to find more of them? Then again the main characters of that movie were all dumber than an Adam Sandler comedy, so I guess it's in keeping with that :P

None of this whole thing with engineers ever made much sense anyway and I'd hate it anyway. The cool part about the original Alien was that the ship they discovered was mysterious, but the obvious implication was that things happened on it much like they later did on Nostromo. That it was just a ship that happened to be transporting alien eggs, presumably found somewhere, and then things went south. Making them humanity's creators is just a needles, pretentious stretch to connect things that don't need to be connected.

I'll be in the theater day one, my only hope is I don't walk out face palming like I did the last time.
There's been a poster released.
Saw this via Twitter.
It looks more like a fan made poster, but apparently it's the real thing.
