A RasPi 3 starter's kit costs 80€, and on top of that I'd want at least an enclosure (+19€), probably some kind of monitor, keyboard and a mouse (I guess I could use my HDTV as a "monitor" with HDMI)...
It all adds up, going above 100€ and towards 200€, and I am starting to think I'd rather buy some cheapo, maybe even used/refurbished laptop for such simple tasks.
The advantage of the RPi is the huge number of accessories and documentation for it (for instance, for building your own enclosures), but if you're not interested in that or hooking up a thermal printer and a remotely-controlled camera to your set-top box, you should really look into it.
