If you’ve been hanging around for a while, especially in the <a href=”"http://www.gog.com/games">games tab</a>, you may have noticed that the growing number of items on our virtual shelf was inching closer and closer to our very first thousand - lo and behold, just this week we made it through our first 1k.

We could start off by thanking the Academy, our moms, and hoping for world peace - and it's not that we don't want to say all those things, but before we do, we want to thank the most important people that made it possible - all of YOU. It may sound a bit turgid and you might not believe that we're tearing up a little as we click "publish" on this piece of news, but you guys are the ones that make GOG.com what it is and our reason to continue bringing you more great games.

Before we break out the fruit punch, though, we want to honor those of you who almost caught up with us. We dug through our records and picked fifty users that have the most boxes on their own virtual shelves.

Let's all give an alphabetically ordered round of applause to:

Antarian, astrugar710, atomsword, AutumnYears, baketomato, Barry_Woodward, benjam47, budejovice, CuriousTwoAtGOG, Darthmort, Disciple_of_Doom, djr155, DonCorleon, Gersen, gorrrrrr, Heirgeir, howardtduck2005, ilcollezionista, jabba1971, JDelekto, KajQrd, kiwy, Kodijack, kotokimura, Lafazar, liquidBass, lobo_1, Loenas, maweball, mrkgnao, MTR77, Murfallo, mwmwm, n0nam3, OlK76, onthemike, palyea, Pantoprazol, sbaylus, Serpico, ShadowWulfe, Silvanus2004, soulroar, tippete, TrevWar, turbond, vasyl, VuA, xckx, and ZombieGum.

We will be contacting these guys personally for T-shirt sizes and mailing addresses for a little, personalized thank-you. We are off to celebrate - but before we go, here's to another thousand digital boxes on the GOG.com shelf!

I hate to be the dick here, but gOg, as much as I love ya and all, you really shouldn't be posting this type of purchase info for specific users - I understand it's not a specific number but we can infer that it's a really big number. It's not any of our business to know that those 50 people own a whole lot of your catalog unless the users themselves tell us about it. I don't share purchase info from any one of my customers to another, and I don't think you should, either.

That said, congrats for reaching this milestone, congrats for getting more and more developers and publishers to understand that DRM is not the solution, congrats for fostering such a loyal and fervent customer base, and kudos for the efforts to not only put these older games back on the market but also for making them work for as many people as possible.

Oh, and since you obviously have DRM-free t-shirts available <ahem>
Awesome news on reaching the 1K mark.

I first found GOG while looking for old games like Teen Agent and Lure of the Temptress. I was amazed to find a DRM free site (with a couple of free games) and have really enjoyed the growing catalog. Keep up the good work and I will do my best to get the next 1000 odd games... as yet I have never managed to purchase the whole game list but will keep on trying :-)
So... with 1000 games in the catalog, who owns the most GOGs now?

:P
594 o_O

It makes me feel guilty, especially when people here have bought so few.

Well put, +1.

Although I never made it a secret that I own much of the catalogue (and actually leveraged that to have MaGog monitor file updates), the visibility of this thread has made it rather more public than I indeed feel comfortable with. In my mind, I can already hear what people might think next time I join a giveaway.

And I believe that only 4-5 of the 50 had previously admitted to their large libraries, so some 40+ have been rather unceremoniously outed.

Well, I guess it's spilt milk under the bridge...
After reading the post above mine I decided to edit mine. It contained some interesting numbers from my profile with connection to current games on GOG.com. But It also contained the number of games I own. As it might come out as bragging (which I haven't thought about before reading the mentioned post) I decided to delete it altogether.

Oh, I almost forgot. Congrats on breaking the 1k GOG!

I wonder if the staff at GOG HQ have any game codes / licenses set aside for games that have been pulled from the store. Whatever principle allows for discontinued games to stay on peoples' shelves should, in theory, allow for additional licenses so long as the publishers in question were paid for them way back when. I would be eternally grateful to the powers that be if they could hook me up with Colin McRae Rally 2005, ObsCure, Republic: The Revolution and TOCA Race Driver 3 in lieu of the T-Shirt or any other goodies. ;)

I was pretty upfront, as I believe most of the forum regulars on the list have been, including you, Barry, and xckx. I have seen Gersen around a bunch, but hadn't noted that they had so many games.

I don't mind personally, but HereForTheBeer has a point. I did find it a little weird when I first noticed, but oh well.

CC had a good point as well (one of those +1s from me, Crow), but that's kind of how these things tend to work. Only the richest of the rich get the best interest rates at the bank. I've always found that wonky, but again, the world we live in.

I noticed a very rare giveaway yesterday that had a GOG game still on my wishlist. No chance! I'm pretty sure I won't feel comfortable entering GAs for even bundle shovelware anymore. :)

JKHSawyer: Congrats GOG.

Now go get 2K and Zenimax plzkthx.

Hecke: Zenimax? Really? Guess they will never publish games here since they are pretty much into DRM. And to be honest: I desist from supporting this company in any way...
Okay? Well I want DOOM and Quake. So...
Thank you Gog for ghost master, and evil genius, and the super smooth hotline miami 2 release.

Can we please get a bit of Freelancer around here, and some Space Hulk.

CarrionCrow: Going to hope that GOG puts something together for the customer base in general, rather than just 50 people with high library numbers.

Everyone with a GOG library, whether they've purchased 5 games, 50 or 500, all have helped get GOG to where it is now.

Thinking it's a safe bet to figure that most people either can't afford to buy everything, or aren't willing to fall into the digital collection trap of feeling like they need to get absolutely everything all the time.

Regardless, every customer has played a part in GOG's success. Seems a bit uneven to put those with the most purchases on a pedestal while disregarding the rest.
+1 and thank you for posting that. Just what I was thinking - not sure that those who have bought the most games should really be given a fanfare, although I suppose it's a way for a commercial site to celebrate a kind of 'commercial' success.
But for a site like GOG, there are surely other ways to celebrate their 1000 games that would include all members, as Crow said, not just a few.

And there are certainly quite a few people I have encountered in the forums who I would describe as 'winners' - perhaps they didn't make it into the 50 for having the most games, but they can be seen around on a daily basis, helping members new and old, gifting, running threads and keeping the forums on an even keel. CarrionCrow is one of them, but there are many others, you know who they are. They are all winners in my book.
1000 at last! Congrats!

But I agree with many others: please revamp the site and the forums (especially the forums) ASAP!!!
And sadly, I also have to agree with mrkgnao's critique: I really hated on STEAM and its region locks and censoring. I fear that GOG will be going that way too, because I reckon they're simply getting in way too many moneys with the additional service in other languages, so it's a trade-off they're willing to make. Simple business.

Thankfully, I wasn't personally affected by this (since I'm not interested in the game which is banned in Germany), but others are - and I reckon it won't be long till a game I'd be interested in won't be available from Germany.

Still, I can only hope you'll continue to listen to us (somewhat) and won't go down the evul corporate way just yet :D

If they can sell the games DRM-free, which is the core principle of GOG, then why not? More new games here = bigger library = better.
Congrats to gog.com for the 1000th! :)

But which one was it? Afterlife? Dead Synchronicity? Albedo?
