There aren't standalone installer links and GOG downloader links. The only way to get it, is through Galaxy.

Anybody care to explain, what exactly happened here? This is a single player game and all... Also, will it run outside Galaxy, post installation?

It's Galaxy only for the Backer Beta. The standalone installers will be available as soon as the game officially launches.
