this game is on steam so i asked there first. but i must ask everywhere ok? and maybe after a few days i'll get a decent answer... maybe.. i just finished playing Wanted a mod for half life 1 and i was thinking to buy alice madness returns or alice 2 as it's known - the first was american mcgee's alice which i finished playing long ago. anyway it costs 10 euro, i already have 45 euro in paysafecard so i can buy.

problem is that i heard it can corrupt / damage hard disks. there was guy who said his HD got destroyed while playing this game, another said he had to switch the SATA cables to make HDs working again.. and i myself know 2 things - my old video card got destroyed while playing neverwinter nights 2. normally i'd get smooth frame rate but during some spells like magic missile, the video card is working to the bone and frame rate very low. when spell finish, back to normal. i don't know more than this i'm not into hardware. when video card damaged, i saw "pixelated" image - there were weird colored pixels all over screen like one of those games from the 80s with low number of colors. and when i was in desktop there were white lines around icons.. and i also know that old CRT monitors could get damaged by changing the horizontal frequency to unsupported values - something about resolution. i say this because some dudes don't believe that software can damage hardware

so whatever - if you played alice madness returns you tell me what happen if you get damaged hard disk

didnt know about that - the original game has a weird drm (Origin)
dont know about Steam version

I recommend alice madness returns proper reloaded version ;)
I've played Alice Madness Returns myself on two PCs, and my friend played it on one, and I was able to play a huge portion on one of my own PCs and the other portion on the other PC. I'm posting this from the current PC (a laptop) that actually finished the last portion of Alice Madness Returns, and my personal data is intact, safe and sound.

Oh, and this was on Windows 8.1 systems. Didn't hold off the game enough until 10 was out, or get it as early as when 7 was all the rage.

Also, another fun fact (because I can): I've played a half of the game on Steam, and the last half on Origin. Still the same result, apart from jumping into a more tolerable, less in your face client, made by the actual publisher of the game.

Why do I own the game on both services? Because the Steam version asked for an EA account, so there you go, an EA account. It just happened to be the same EA account as my Origin account.

That's perfectly normal. It's intended to better get you into the correct state of mind.

ciomalau: so whatever - if you played alice madness returns you tell me what happend
I played it - and nothing happened. Those users reporting damaged hard drives might just have had some bad luck (meaning: their HDDs would have crashed anyways - no matter, which game they played).

ciomalau: snip
You seem to be very new to computers if you think it's games that cause damages. Certain DRMs might be problematic but that's more into the "harmful software" category like viruses and malware. Games only stress hardware which is normal functionality. You get artifacts etc. when your cooling solution is insufficient or if your hardware is faulty.

Alice is a good game. Gets repetitive and most levels follow the same scheme. But some levels are particularly brilliant and beautiful.
I see, nobody knows ciomalau here.

Oh yeah I must have. I don't check all of the threads, just less than a half.

Less that half is still quite impressive
