I generally give up well before the end if I'm not that into a game and it's not a universally praised one.

A couple games where i came close but didn't were Ys 1 and Hollow Knight (real final boss).

I've played the PC version of this game (both the boxed original and the GOG version) quite a few times now with no problems at all. It might be worth picking up the game - maybe when it's next on sale - and see if it works better for you than the PS3 version. Well worth it :)

Not sure if this is important but I play on a Win 7 x64 machine.

I decided to give Dragon Age another chance. The controls/interface are much better for the PC version. It's still too early to tell if the game will suffer the same slowdown issues as the PS3 version though.

Those games worked on PC quiet well on release Deus Ex worked best with a modified exe removing DRM it behaved it self.

I think I talked about a similar idea on here on another topic. My buddy calls it final dungeon paralysis whereas my brother and I call it last boss/dungeon syndrome. It does not really matter what we call it, same concept. That said, that does not mean strictly I abandoned the game entirely, or permanently. That said, it certainly has happened.

I dropped Daemon X Machina for about a year after I got extremely frustrated at the final boss just being a cheap HP sponge. He's faster than me, stronger than me, has more friends around the plant than I do. I did not really grind per se, but apparently I was able to get to the final boss without modifying my character with cyborg enhancements so I did those and then used cheap moves and exploits on a fifteenth or so try one days in April or May and just happened to finally make it that time. Otherwise I basically abandoned the game and happened to want to play it.

I played Immortals Fenyx Rising right up to the last region. This was after absolutely loving the game and playing it with a similar dedication I had to Breath of the Wild (a game I credit with renewing a lot of love for gaming). Partly things going on personally and the game losing a little steam (it's very content heavy and could easily take me a similar length of time as I'd already spent) for me combined in me just not picking it back up for initially a few days and now it's been basically three fourths of a year later.

I am not entirely sure how close to the end I am in Shadow Warrior 2 but I am pretty sure I am at least 80% to the end of the story. At some point it became kind of tiresome with how the sort of Diablo style of level design and none of the weapons are particularly satisfying after a while. I dunno, just dropped it and have not gone back to the story for a few years. Actually, it and Legend of Dragoon had some breaks put on it by personal life stuff too... I think I am noticing a theme. The explanation still stands for why I have not really gone back to it.

Legend of Dragoon, see the above. That said, after putting a game with a complicated (or at least highly rhythmic) battle system down for a while it requires a great deal of dedication to get back into it. Dedication that I have not been able to muster since I dropped it three years ago.

Dragon Quest IX was at risk of this but having resumed it every here and again after the initial batch of paralysis it's probably not going to be a permanent thing.

Glad I'm not the only one. That game is huge. And I certainly got my money's worth since mine was a free copy from the Stadia Trial.
