As we all find some time to relax after a year of hot releases and big sales, we thought it would be fun to look back and give you a short recap of GOG.COM's Winter Sale and listen to your opinions on the event.

Our annual Winter Sale ran for 23 days this time (from December 11th, 2019 to January 2nd, 2020) with almost 3,000 deals for games, including completion bundles and special game collections. One title, Lost Sea, had the highest discount amount them - coming in at 95% off!

If you followed the entire Winter Sale, you were also able to claim four free games (Wasteland 2, POSTAL 2, POSTAL: Classic and Uncut, and Tower of Time), and eight more games through GOG Connect if you already owned them on Steam. These offers were super popular and we're always very happy when we can give you such gifts.

Behind the scenes of the Winter Sale
While our Winter Sale has a lot happening on the front end, what is not usually visible is all the work that goes into making it happen, not only weeks before the sale (like discount approvals and designing the takeover images) but also during the event. We were constantly evaluating the performance of the sale, updating the front page based on hard data and our gut feeling, while listening to your feedback, for example, to help you discover the best deals.

A new option to hide DLCs in the catalog was also introduced during the sale (which we're still testing and improving) and should help you in the future when searching for games on sale. We also gathered and shared our recommendations and suggestions with you through a series of promo pages with the best deals, top-rated games, and more. It shouldn't be a surprise that the Good Old Games themed selection was the most popular one!

Another new element of this sale was the featured newsletters that included special limited-time offers. We've been testing this format for some time now and we can see that a lot of you enjoy it, especially the fact that these newsletters allow us to offer you higher discounts than usual. It's worth it to subscribe as there are plenty more cool offers to come!

The Winter Sale is also a very busy time for our Support team (pictured above!). The number of support tickets in December grew by 70% in comparison to the previous month and by 40% in comparison to December 2018. We usually send the first response to your tickets within 24 hours but that time grew to approx. 37 hours in December 2019 while our whole Support team kept working basically around the clock. This is why we want to thank you for your patience as we're currently clearing our backlog trying to resolve every ticket.

Finally, let us share a few technical facts regarding the Winter Sale. Our IT and Web teams kept a close eye on the website performance to make sure that the front page is loaded faster than it did during the prior year, even though we put even more games on display. To make sure of that, we doubled the number of servers during the Winter Sale. December 30th turned out to be the busiest day with six times more traffic than usual. At the same time, our daily data transfer for game downloads was 2.5 times higher. You played a lot of games during the holidays!

Oh, and between all that, we somehow managed to squeeze in our annual Christmas party and make a special Blade Runner cosplay photoshoot in our office :)

What a year it was!
Overall, we want to thank YOU for participating in our Winter Sale. Next to the Summer Sale, it's the biggest event of the year for us and we already can say that our recent sale was by far the biggest Winter Sale in the history of GOG.COM Store. A perfect conclusion to a year full of exciting game releases and events!

What are your impressions regarding GOG.COM's Winter Sale? Which games did you buy? Would like to read more look back articles like this one? Let us know in the comments below!

To make the frontpage easier, less complex and more convenient (as it was before your flawed redesign) would help a lot.
I am really glad that you´re doing well.
I have also played with my partner Dying Light for the first time during these holidays, other than that I am completely engrossed in Disco Elysium at the moment, no other game needed, thank you :)

And looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 release, I plan to have an extended weekend on the release, just playing :)
Good job, guys! Expecially support! Always great support you offer! ;)

Chacranajxy: Craziest thing is, I've actually been playing some of them, too.
Crazier yet: Of the 11 I bought I've beaten 5, and I'm already working on the 6th. ;)

Completed Unavowed, Blade Runner, Bound By Flame, Red Faction: Armageddon, and Project Warlock over the holidays... without actually having any time off work. Currently playing Greedfall. After that it'll probably be Lords of the Fallen and the Surge. Not that this is helping any of the rest of my backlog. ;)

Sort by price and/or discounts would also be great. It has been wishlisted since YEARS and should not be so hard to implement. Years ago I programmed myself and back then it was simply "sort by price" added to the SQL statement. It might be a bit more complicated than that in your case but honestly it is hard to understand why this is taking years, especially since it will not just help customers but GOG as well and it WILL lead to many additional purchases. Keep in mind: the easier and faster it is for the customer to find good offers the higher the probability that the customer will buy - the lower it is the higher the probability that the customer will simply move away from the sale. Nowadays time is extremely precious (so once again I ask GOG to bundle future games with some time ;)) and you should keep that in mind, especially in case of such big sales in which the customer can easily get lost.

You are on the right way making things better but I know you can do even better if you just want. The sale itself was great and I am thankful for all the discounts, the support, the not crashing webpage and for all those freebies. I also noticed those extra "deep discounts" sections you added as well as the "new added section" which also was a big step forward.

Bring us Dungeon Master, Dungeon Master 2 and Chaos Strikes back now :)
Lovely picture! Indeed it reminds us that you are humies after all. :)

All the best GOG and everyone in the new year! <3
It is time to bring us Mass Effect Trilogy HD Remaster.

Don´t forget the Wasteland 1.

Yes, it´s good reading this articles from time to time, is when you noticed that are humans behind this stuff.

I´m suscribed to the newsletter now and if it included codes for extra discounts is a good choice.

I think that you could put more bundles to incentivate people to spend more.

This Winter Sales i did a big clearing to my wishlist, i bought almost 30 games, including The Witcher 2 EE, Deus Ex GOTY, Her Story, Tzar, Dark Fall trilogy, Black Mirror trilogy, Samorost 3 or the Blackwell games.

Thats what I call a USP ! I can already see me cutting down my gaming backlog while the gog support team is scrubbing my bathtub and cooking dinner :o)

I would very much like more restrospective/behind the scenes articles from gog, its alot easier to relate to/not get angry at real people then to a website.

Thanks for all the great releases this year, still trying to "work" my way through the purchases I only made during the winter sale.
Good discounts and a great store. Not without its flaws, but I love this place in general because of its charm.

In the next episode of GOG Insider: Meet the janitor and the bagel boy! =P
A few things that I would like to see as well as a question or two:

I wish that a warning would pop up if you are going to be games that are also listed in your GOG Galaxy 2.0 "All Games" section on checkout.

Over this holiday sale I bought games only for others and it was like throwing a dart in the dark as I couldn't find a way to see friends libraries or wishlists.

Why are some of my GOG games IE Fallout (my first purchase ever on this site when it launched in my country) does it not show as owned when I go the game page?

Could we get an option to ignore or not see game variations of games that we have already bought?

All that said, since 2008 GOG has been my number 1 choice for where to buy games. I will always appreciate the hard work that goes into not only bringing us these great games and preserving them but also these fantaastic sales. I am incredibly pleased with how far this store has come since 2008. I hope everyone there has an incredible year ahead of them. I know I'm excited about it.

Thank you for everything.
It's always nice to get some freebies and to look at all these bell and whistles, but at the end of the day all sales are about discounts and in case of GOG sales are about discounted good old games. That's the reason I think both Black Friday Sale and Winter Sale was exceptionally good and I've bought a lot of great classics. Thanks for them and also thanks for all the work behind these precious legendary titles being offered here!

And there is one more reason the Winter Sale is unforgettable. It's Blade Runner's release. For me the event means "everything is possible". Now I'm optimistic again about all the games that I have come to accept that they will never appear on GOG. Empires are going to collapse, copyrights are going to be transferred and we will eventually see Discworld, Dune series and Diablo 2 here, you'll see! :D
So nice to see GOG staff come out a bit and talk about themselves ;) I miss that direct connection that was more pronounced when you guys were much more active on the forums.

I completely emptied my holidays wallet three times during the sale and as a result ended up with a ton of games, so congratulations to you on that! That wasn't my original plan but Blade Runner, a bunch of new "old" releases from Piko and so many freebies turned the tables. I was also happy to play some Slitherine wargames at last during the holiday break.

I hope the good trend continues and we see even more awesome stuff getting released here :)
