neurasthenya: I recommend you watch (actually, I recommend everyone to watch) this interesting take on the topic you've mentioned.
Errant Signal - The debate that never took place Errant Signal can be good at times, I also enjoy
smudboy's videos.
dtgreene: Well, there is this article, which analyzes gameplay from a mathematical standpoint:
http://arxiv.org/abs/1203.1895 I have absolutely no idea what this article is about, I was never good with numbers! :Đ
tort1234: Why not just call it gameology or game science?
That's literally its name, just in Latin. There have been studies about the negative impacts of video games and besides the chance of prolonged physical inactivity, there's not a whole lot of scaremongering in (peer-reviewed) academic papers. I don't think you should worry about con artists in (niche) academia so much.
Nirth: Please return with a similar thread if you gain an opportunity to write something like that.
If I do get around to it, it won't be a scientific paper, I can assure you. But I would definitely love to write down some thoughts on certain games/series eventually...
Again, thanks everyone for the interest!
