IronArcturus: Has anyone tried that "Crimsonland" game at all? Is it any good?
it's widely recognized as a good game. honestly, I don't know what makes it a bit more expensive than most indie games, but apparently they put some effort into the remaster or something.

I played it a lot back in the day. one of the tracks was also something I learned to play on guitar really early, so I have a soft spot for it for that. it's a straightforward game that gets you into the action very quickly, and while replayable, is fairly simple. so, what I'm saying is, a short look at a Let's Play or something like it will tell you all you need to know.

Thanks for the info! Also, have you tried that Cossacks Anthology at all? It looks similar to Age of Empires in the screenshots.

Crimsonland is a fair "dual stick" shooter. The levels are really open without barriers, landscape, or obstacles. Enemies mob you with each having different attach patterns and the swarming foes create a bullethell like atmosphere. You you mow through the unending hordes of foes sometimes power-ups drop in the form of new weapons or buffs so you have to strategicalyl fight towards the necessary ones. New weapons/buffs are unlockable through game benchmarks. Occassionally enemy spawning chambers pop up to mow down. There's a good variery of bad guys so despite limited level design it often feels like you never fight the same bad guys too often. Crimsonland is easily worth $3.49 for enemy variety and it's frantic nature. Games like Alien Breed do have more sophisticated levels but few beat the crazy enemy swarming of Crimsonland. It has a good action arcade game feel with time limited levels leaving a "just one more go" feel and you will die a bunch.

Its not Age of Empires - not even close. You need a constant supply of ressources in this game. Ressources like wheat to feed your troops and workers. Coal and Iron for your troops to shoot bullets and shells. Units fight in formations. Using cannoncs in this game is very important. You have technology advancement that really affects the battlefield. I highly recommend the game. A word of caution though its quite a long game and higly replayable. Its a true RTS classic.

That game is a lot of fun! It's basically a roguelike where you have to command 4 mechs against mass armies of other robots. It's turn-based and you have to beat the computer within about 50 turns/battles or you lose. Each mech can be customized after each battle, and there are many different weapon combos to use. Plus, the music is really good too!

The only cons I can think of is that the level design is pretty basic and dark. You'll be seeing a lot of "grids" in the game. Bionic Dues is very tough and the sessions will seem to last forever. :P

Sounds good except there are limited number of turns each game?.

Do you know if the series can run in a window?

You got me on that one. Im not sure if it's possible cause its the original version and that one did not have a windowed mode.

Will boot windows up and check the game to see if their is a windowed mode in gog version. Will be back in a few minutes.

If I remember correctly, if you lose a battle 5 times, then the computer will win and it's game over. The turn-based aspect occurs within each battle. Each game is randomized, and when you look at the map each "town" is a separate battle. The goal is to basically keep your central base alive until the final battle. It's a very tough game, but with the promo I think it would be worth it! :)

The GOG bear can... :P

I was wondering about that game too. Has anyone played it? Is it like a puzzle game?

It doesn't clearly display the hotspots you can interact with, therefor requiring you to actually think and understand how things work in the real world, beyond videogame logic. I hated that! ;)

Also, I got stuck early in the beginning, probably because I overlooked something. I'm under the impression I've explored everything I can for now, but I don't know what to do and how to advance the story. Since this is supposed to be a casual and relaxing experience, this game makes me feel dumb. :P

First person 3D adventure game like Myst. You explore, read documents like notes, letters etc. to learn the stories, and solve puzzles related to your environment.
