Does this work on Linux, through Wine? If you've had success installing and running and of the versions, please post.

For me the wine install of GF1 2.1.0.7 threw a null pointer exception.

I haven't had any problems running Spiderweb Software games under WINE.

If you are having trouble installing, try adding /nogui to the installer's command line.
Hmm, couldn't quite figure out how to apply the /nogui option, but apparently the install actually did work, since it launched on the second attempt to install even though the runtime errors still came up.

Only problem so far is that 1/5 of the text for dialog is cut off. But that's easy enough to guess what's being said.

Try running the game in the same resolution as your desktop so WINE doesn't need to change the resolution. If that is not possible, use xrandr to change your desktop's resolution to one the game does support.
