I'm at the part where you have matthias with you and you have to order him to do things, but double clicking on him seems to sometimes talk to him and sometimes command him, how do you intentionally command someone?

nevermind figured it out haha, didn't realise that double clicking just performed the last action you used (IE talking or using, etc) and that you just had to use the hand icon on someone
