Yes I saw an offline LAN option in the main game menu. Haven't tried it yet but it should work.
I bought the game, and there does not appear to be any way to play LAN unless you are signed into Galaxy. Yuck.

Yeah sorry, I said I haven't tried it. But I remember it is written offline there...

Hey guys,

LAN multiplayer should be available without GOG Galaxy. We will look into it tomorrow.

Can you give me a definitive answer as to whether the game installs Galaxy even if you're only ever going to play offline, single player mode? Is there a classic installer download (without Galaxy at all) as some threads in this forum have made me doubt now that this is the case. I'd just like to make sure before I decide whether I'm going to buy the game or not. Thanks.

I have the answer for this. In fact, I installed the game with standalone installer first. The game does not install client by default if you choose it to be so at the beginning of the installation.

After having frequent connection drops in multiplayer, I had to uninstall and reinstall via client.

So yes, you can install the game with standalone installer, although I can not vouch for offline multiplay. I only tried online multiplay with the standalone installation so I suppose offline lan sould work as well (I don't see why it would not).

I should add that I had the client open while playing the game, otherwise it would not let me play, even in standalone installation. But as Paczyk said above, OFFLINE LAN should work without client in normal circumstances..

There is an option for offline local coop (which means you share the same computer with other players). There isn't an option for LAN without Galaxy running however.
Thanks to Excolion and tremere110 for your answers - +1 to you both.
That's right you cannot as of right now play an offline Local Area Network (A.K.A. not online) multiplayer game without being signed into Galaxy (A.K.A. being online).

That was a fun surprise when I installed the game for my micro LAN party on the weekend after spending all night downloading a game that wouldn't work instead of for example something like Open Red Alert that would of.
Nice customer experience that; real polish from poland right there.

Perhaps local coop oin the same computer would be good enough if more than the xbox controller drivers were supported which has been a long running problem for me since the problem was identified when they brought the multiplayer title spelunky 2 to GOG.

Hey guys,

It appears that there might have been a misunderstanding here. Gauntlet does not have LAN multiplayer option so the only multiplayer available is via the Internet. The only local multiplayer is the "on the same PC" one and it can be run without GOG Galaxy.

Why not add a LAN/Direct connect mode to Galaxy and allow it to be used without signing in? Then any game that can optionally have match making can also be played DRM free.

I can't figure out how to do local split screen in campaign mode. Is there a trick to it?
