ThreeSon: I bought the Steam version not too long ago, and it made me register the game with Stardock before I could play (along with all of their other games on Steam), which is pretty low of them. Is the same registration requirement here as well?
Gowor: No, you don't need to register anywhere to play our version of the game.
Thank you. That's a relief.
Gaunathor: When did you buy it on Steam? Until recently, Stardock provided stand-alone installers for their games, no matter where you bought them. This is the reason for the registration. Now, Stardock only provides Steam-keys for new purchases, which should make the registration no longer necessary, if you buy one on Steam. However, I don't use Steam, so I can't verify this.
And for the record, the Stardock-installer for GalCiv 1 is entirely DRM-Free.
I have four of Stardock's games on Steam: GalCiv I and II, Sins, and Demigod. All of them require that you register the game with Stardock before they will run. I'm assuming that is their intention, thinking that it will reduce piracy or possibly just to get your email address so they can send you ads. Or maybe it's something leftover from Impulse. I really don't know, but if all they're issuing is Steam keys, I wish they'd get rid of the redundancy already.
