Weirdest thing I can remember from any GC sessions. Have a very peaceful game running. Maxed relationship with everybody; just doing my thing and keeping everybody happy. Till out of the blue in awaiting next turn a combat screen pops in which a rather big Torian fleet attack 3 ships that, apparently, belong to my empire. Just the ships designations read like Torians too; totally not mine ships at least (mine squatted that fleet).

Checking it out I was at least 3 turns on war with them already (not knowing it) and they had war with almost every other major fraction. Never read a event popping or or a war dec warning something similar.

Torian gone mad since they defied the UP when I proposed the trade bonus (which happened around the same time)?

You don't get popups for war declared in Galciv3. Instead, it is hidden in the obscure notifications list that no one has time to check every turn.

So it is often the case you can be at war with someone and not know it until something happens involving combat.

Yes we don't want popups occurring for obscure reasons, and in that sense the notifications list is good, but probably something like war being declared does really need to be a popup message i think!

Especially one so unlikely. Maxed admiration bar, just renewed all treaties few turns ago and the only "negative" was the silly, overused "you are ripe for conquest" (because of their armada of trashcans with guns which made them military No. 1 for mass). And still, that negative was overshadowed by lots of positive aspects.

That and the sudden war not just against me but everyone except Drengin (confusing, they hate each other) and the Squirrels (major, not minor).
I find it hard to understand how war is not a major pop up notification! It should be. War is very serious and no leader of any nation past or future never knows when he`s in a war.

A huge oversight by the Devs there. hopefully if enough of us petition them on their site they will add an (optional) pop-up.
The notifications just got an overhaul in the latest patch. Now they went from bad to worse. :/

Probably the Americans did not know they were at war before pearl Harbor!

But in galciv3, a surprise attack you will always notice, and therefore know you are at war.

whereas according to how galciv3 notifications work, you would have to imagine it is possible the Americans can have received a declaration of war from the Japanese before Pearl Harbor and not noticed it because the American policy is that declarations of war are not important and can be filed with the regular mail.... how stupid is that??

Edit: oh i think i remember some old Peter Sellers comedy movie.... the story was some tiny European nation had the idea to save their economy by declaring war on America then surrendering.... so American occupying forces will fix things up like they did for Germany and Japan.

The Americans disregarded the declaration of war and therefore did not know they were officially at war..... and stupid Peter Sellers who was supposed to lose the war. managed to win the war accidentally!! What was that movie called? It may not have been Peter Sellers, i don't know for sure?

Useless contribution to the thread.
