I just started Galactic Civilizations (GalCiv 1). It was in my backlog for ages.

I want to play it in windowed mode, leaving some space in the monitor for a notepad to the side and the taskbar at the bottom.

I didn't find a topic about this here in gog's forums. In the "water vapor" store forums they recommend to modify the link so the game runs at 16bits colors and add a 'w' as parameter at the end of the link's target. That gave me the game running in a window, but it but it didn't allow me to adjust the resolution. >:P

What I did was to download DxWnd and play a little with the configuration. I'm just 10 hours into the game so I don't have a collection of savefiles to properly test the configuration. I'm curious about how other people fare with GalCiv1+DxWnd.

For those unaware, "DxWnd" is a directx wrapper and can be download from:

The latest version at the time I write this post was 2.05.89.

The changes from the default configuration I'm using are:
