The Werewolves: Law and Lore book says quite a bit about werewolves, but there is something I've been wondering:

If an Alpha is killed, and there are surviving Betas who weren't involved in the killing and/or have tasted human blood (and therefore are cursed forever), what happens to those Betas?

In particular, if Gabriel had shot von Glower instead of von Zell during the hunt, what would have happened to von Zell? He definitely wouldn't have changed back to an ordinary human, firstly because he has tasted human blood, and secondly because he would not have killed von Glower himself... but what would have happened to him?

It seems to me like the most logical possibilities are that (a) von Zell would have died too, or (b) von Zell would have become the next Alpha.
