I don't understand how to solve the clock puzzle of grandma's house
I read walkthrough because I couldn't get any hints of this puzzle
but Walkthrough was just telling me how without why

Can I get any hints of clock puzzle in this game?
Supposedly the german poetrybook in Gabriels bookstore is a hint, but I for one couldn't figure that one out.
Something about three dragons or something.
Here are the pieces of information that are supposed to lead to the answer.

1. The clock is noted as being "probably of German origin." (Maybe a clue of how to open it is also of German origin?)

2. The clock is sitting on a chest full of other German paraphernalia from Gabriel's grandfather, such as books.

3. The rest of his grandfather's German books are in the bookstore.

SPOILER ALERT!

4. "Drei Drachen" was written by Heinz Ritter.

5. Wolfgang Ritter claims to be a relative of Gabriel. (Maybe Heinz Ritter was too?)

6. "Drei" means three, and "Drachen" means dragons.

Other tidbits:

7. The notebook depicts, among other things, three snakes next to a strange circular symbol that looks a little bit like the clock.

8. According to Grace, dragons are associated with snakes.
