I've been enjoying a lot of older adventure titles via Twitch lately and with the recent spring sale I took advantage and picked up a lot of classic games - Gabriel Knight 20th being one of them.

Immediately after the opening, in the book store, I felt overwhelmed. It lets you know you can press 'space' to highlight all of the objects you can interact with and there were dozens in just the first room - not to mention you can talk to the lady at the counter with almost a dozen different dialogue options.

I know not everything in the game is going to be relevant or necessary to interact with, but how do I even get going with so much already in my face? Anyone care to casually point me in the direction of beginning the actual storyline?

GK1 comes from an older age of adventuring where hot spots were plentiful and it was easy to get overwhelmed with the plethora of locations open to you at the start of the game. The 20th Anniversary edition does mitigate this somewhat by closing off many of the locations on the world map until the days when they become relevant to puzzle solving. And most locations won't have quite as much to explore as St. George's Rare Books.

To get underway, talk with Grace at the desk and ask her about what phone messages she has for you!
