I bought it the millisecond I got the email notification from GOG.
What an astoundingly good game this is. Wonderful acting, captivating and romantic story, great scenery, and very interesting history to learn.
I was SO skeptical about the actors chosen to portray these characters, but about halfway through my first play-through I knew the casting was perfect. I especially love Grace - she's a tough cookie!

Yay! Can't wait to play it. After Sins of the Fathers that is.

I just bought GK 2, Its really awesome for GoG to get it, I've been waiting forever to be able to play GK1 and GK 2 without having to shell out 100$ on Ebay.
Anyone think we'll see GK 3?

Bought it right away myself and for the same reason... it has been really hard to find for less than the proverbial arm and leg. Thanks GOG and here is to hoping GK3 follows soon!

i wouldn't look for GK3 anytime soon. It has problems that can't be solved with the likes of DOSBox or ScummVM. There are work arounds for the incompatibility problems on modern systems, but none of them constantly work for everyone. It may take a fair bit of RE-ing the game to fix it. There are ways to do it with enough of an investment of time and resources. Don't get me wrong, I would love it if they did, but they would probably be inviting a support nightmare for themselves without dissecting the game to rebuild it.

For anyone who does not own this game already and is thinking about getting it, go ahead and get it, you won't be disappointed, but for those who still own the disc version from the old days I would not bother, there has been a third party fan created installer for modern systems for quite some time now that will let you fully install the game in less time then it will take to download it from this site, plus this method also requires no disc swapping (as I am sure GOG does as well). if this is ever part of a weekend sale however, I may consider getting it from here as a backup.

There is another thread about the soundtrack, it can be downloaded from Sierra, haven't done this yet as the site is blocked at work.
I also bought this as soon as I saw it, I actually was working in Munich just after finishing this game so checked out some of the places at the time and have very fond memories of the game :)
Never played GK3 though, it wasn't compatible with Win 98 onwards IIRC, was this game any good?

The site is mine, the Sierra Help Pages. The Sierra web site no longer exists. The domain now redirects to Activision. GK3 was released in 1999 and was intended for Windows 9X, not the NT line of Windows (2k/XP/Vista/Win7). That is why there are the problems with running it on modern Windows. Your PC at the time might not have met the hardware requirements for the game, but if you couldn't play it, it was not because of Windows 98.

I have recently played Gabriel Knight 2. At first I was worried if I can undestand the game without subtitles but soon I got absorbed by its athmosphere and story. And Von Glower is an awesome character.
It really is an amazing game and I am glad GOG purchased it. I am waiting for some other interesting game and then I'll definitely buy it together with it.

I liked GK3 the best. The story wasn't as strong as GK2's, but the puzzles and interactivity were so much better.
Unfortunately, the game hasn't aged well at all. I already thought the game was a little ugly (and clunky in terms of interface) upon release, and I can't imagine replaying it today.

That makes you one of my personal heroes.
On a non-related note: is GK2 played with dosbox? I think i can figure out from the answers on the forum that the answer to my question is yes, but I thought to ask it anyway just to make sure. It makes all the difference in the world! (all the difference being me being able to play it in my couch with my macbook or at my desk on the PC)
