I am playing on Windows Vista but I can't see the mouse in game. I also have troubles seeing the star chart. Any advice would be appreciated.

You can try the following:

Goto Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options tab
Uncheck the Display pointer trails box

This supposedly remedies some missing mouse pointers in games on Vista and Windows 7.
