If you delete the name of the ship and then press the Esc key, "The Nameless One" will appear as a name.

I took the opportunity to call my three people (still using the first ship) Yemeth (pilot), The Good (shield), and Practical (missiles). Haven't changed any name since the first game.

Personally I would have gone with Morte, Dak'kon and Annah as the crew and nick-naming the healing bay Grace.

Indeed, but if you think about it if TNO is the ship, you could consider him/it a sort of envelope for what's inside which... spoilers :D
