So, after saving and quitting FTL: Advanced Edition I got a BSOD error and the computer restarted. I've just tried to start playing again and (unsurprisingly) my save game is gone, but so is all my progress. No ships unlocked, no achievements, no high scores.

I've loaded up original FTL and all my ships are still unlocked there. In some of the other threads people mention both versions use the same resource files so I'm not sure what could have happened...

Any ideas? I suppose I can just uninstall it and reinstall it, but if there's another option I could try first (just in case uninstalling erases my original progress too) I would prefer that.

You can look to see if the file is there.
Check (User)>Documents>My Games>FasterThanLight
and look for ae_prof.sav and continue.sav
Yes, delete your ae_prof.sav and continue.sav and it should restore back to the 'prof.sav' unlock state from the previous version. If that doesn't work (say, for whatever continue.sav is corrupted too) there's an (unofficial) tool to unlock ships on the official forums; it doesn't, yet, quite work with the new AE ships / files, but they are working on it.

[Think it is fine doing that with previous unlocks - not too cheatesque. Though it is quite fun starting over from scratch with all you learnt and unlocking things again - especially given that it's a bit easier to progress from ship to ship now.]

Great guys!

My game is installed in a folder in my user folder called "Games" and I was looking their for the .sav files there (and failing to find them).

But I've found them now (in "My Documents/My Games/" as suggested, damned Windows 7) and erasing the ae_prof.sav file has indeed made it reload my old progress from the original version.

So now I just need to re-unlock the Type C Kestrel and I'm no worse off.
