Anyone know why this game was marked updated to 1.6.0, but the game still shows Version 1.5.13?

For some strange reason, GOG likes to make up their own numbers for the installers, instead of displaying the actual version number of the game. I think GOG labels it "1.6.0" because they have updated the installer 6 times. Anytime a game gets an update, GOG increases that game's installer number by .1.
I have no idea why they do it this way - it just confuses everyone.

So 1.6.0 is just the version of GOG's FTL installer - not the version of the game itself.
Don't pay attention to any of GOG's numbers. The latest version of the game is indeed 1.5.13.

There are several wishlist pages asking for the actual game version to be displayed...

I'm guessing that you're referring to the mac version since that is the only one that shows a version number of 1.6.0.

It might just be because of how GOG manages version numbers for their installers, but if you do keep the installers you can compare versions between the last installer you downloaded and the current one (The 'update' might have been to add the linux version of the game with there being no actual update of the versions of the game currently available for mac and windows systems).

It is incredibly annoying in modern games.
If I had to guess why they do it, its because they started out with ancient games which they had to work on to make even run on a modern OS.
so the game version is always "the latest version from 20 years ago" but the gog version number indicate changes to the installer / compatibility fix pack they apply to it (usually dosbox)

Now that gog is no longer exclusively dealing in old game, they should introduce an alternative system to new games where they give us the actual version number

I think it has more to do with GOG writing custom installers for every game they sell, and the version we see is that of the installer script, not necessarily of the game. A really simple solution would be to add a VERSION.TXT file of some sort to both the installation and the account page for each game. Some of the confusion may also come from publishers who push out their own updates to installed games. I don't think it's necessarily an old v. new situation, as every publisher has their own quirks when it comes to version numbers.
thanks, missed one.

and my own contribution to the redundancy

at this point the only thing to do when you see a "new" notification is to check the forum to see whether anything relevant actually changed or whether this is only numbers marketing again.
Voted all 3. Thanks.
