Never had any problems since yesterday. Autosaves and manual saves took 1-2 seconds and were not even recognizable most of the time..
But since the update to 1.1.2 yesterday saves take very, very long, and since today they even crash (end) the game silently.

Add: now it crashes ALMOST on every save after a specific load. The last successfull save was an autosave scenario 1, day 21. I managed to do a quicksave almost immediately after loading, but if I wait any longer, every save crashes after 5-10 seconds.
Now I will try saving on a NEW game.

Add 2: in an "early" game (day 1-3) saves are done in almost zero time. So it seems my specific save mentioned above and all its successors are corrupt in some way. But I don't recognize any strange behaviour during play until it is saved or autosaved.

Tahnks Raet.

I just played an Arks scenario from beginning to end: Saving gets slower every "day". Even the finishing summary crashed without a save. Loading sometimes is very slow, too. Same holds for ending the game to the main menu.
Thank you. Sounds nice that it worked without saving. Maybe the IronMode is still working. I´m not playing this game enough to do this without an critical failure in managing the needs of my citizens, maybe I give it an try. Yesterday I read an frustrating Comment in Steam Community, with the 1.1.2 Hotfix. Someone got to Day44 and it crashed. Last working save was twenty days bevor that.
I´m worried that they may killed the medium-Gameplay for weeks with this Content-Patch.
Don´t have an Backup with the previous Installer, so I even don’t know how to downgrade back to 1.1.0 :/

Edit: Thank you bloerg, found the location of the downgrade-option :)

I have reverted to 1.1.1 with GOG Galaxy (normally I don't like spy software, but this is the exact reason to use it).
Loaded my critical save (day 21) and it worked, except for all hunters hangars being invisible. Saving lasted for 25 seconds, showing windows busy circle, shortly pausing all sound, but then it worked again! I'll wait for 1.1.3 or above now.

Add: just tried to load a game saved with 1.1.2 (Arks, day3) with 1.1.1: crash!
They should show the version saved with in the icon like "The Witcher 3" does it and should refuse to load a newer version's save.

they released a hotfix on steam to patch 1.12 in 10th of august, but as usually they tend to forget to release it on GOG.
have this same problem unplayable
Since this morning, the installed version is labelled "1.1.2 OLD". Maybe something is coming ...

Yes, and since mdday there was a new version labelled "1.1.2". What a strange naming/versioning convention!! And downlodable files without any date and time. I really feel "second class" as a GOG customer!

That version does not crash (so far), but later, when the crater is almost full, each save still lasts for about 20-30 seconds.
The save files are about 80-100 MB in size, which does not at all explain the long duration on my fast system.

I consider the artwork much better than 1.1.1, so I will give it a try and start a new game now.

Add 2018-08-25:
And here are my test results:
Played a brand new game with 1.1.2(new gog version), scenario "A New Home" on normal difficulty. Not the slightest problems, no crashes at all. The last save on day 34 short before the end lasted about 1-2 seconds and is 59 MB in size (68 houses, several other bulidings, 679 people, 30 automatons). Before that the saves at midnight were not even noticeable at all. I would not say 59 MB is too much for a save file of that complexity and the duration is OK.

But as soon as I load a game saved with version 1.1.1, the problems reoccur during the next save and during ending the game! I consider this a serious bug besides the wrong and confusing german translations of "hours" and "days" and the POSITIVE generator coal consumption (about +72/day at steam level 4) shown in the statistics screen!

Have´t played since "1.1.2 OLD" and back to "1.1.2". Frostpunk is an very nice game. Can´t wait to play the game and the new conent too. Hope the next patch will come soon, in sync with other platforms and not later.
Edit: Curios, at Steam there is an developer-taged One, answering bug-Reports with FAQ-Links & Co. Sad he havent shown up here too.

I assume they updated the game with the hotfix, but they didn't update de patchnotes yet.
Safer is to start new games as I understood on steam forums.
Deinstalled it, deleted the user Files - just forgot the cloud-sync - installed again. Like they say in the FAQ.
Works well until Day17, there was the midnight crash again.

Edit: Savegames still working, got two other midnight crashes. Was able to get to day 32 without an big disconfort. At day32 quicksave at afternoon results in an crash. Maybe an failure because i got the browser open, trying again soon.
Edit2: Got Until the End with the Main Kampain. Midnight Save made everytime an short lag but no more crash after restart the PC, using only Frostpunk in Fullscreen. Saves are still to big, synchronisation fails at the end.
