Hy all
My problem is that Freespace 2 is running pretty hmm bad. The Framrates go down drastically in fast moves. I'm trying to use the "High graphic settings" as it is default.
It works fine until i need too make changes in my heading then FPS goes down the drain
I use XP SP2 Eng, Amd 3200+ 64, 1024 MB ram, Nvidia 7800 GT
Q: Is there a way to make it run smoother?
Q: Is there a mod i should download witch would help?
Thx for your help

Hello

Our answer was this:

"Hello – first of all sorry that you have to wait so long I recommend reading this thread if you are comfortable with editing registry entries. http://www.gog.com/en/forum/freespace_series/fix_for_choppy_graphics_fs1_and_fs2_on_nvidia_cards/post1 If not let us know and we will try to come up with a more userfriendly solution."

I will mark it as a solution

Editing the registry didn't solve my problem, but I've found a better solution.
First, download the Freespace Open Installer from http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html
Start it and select the maximum install (it will take much time, as it has to download the files from the internet).
After the installation is complete, execute the Launcer.exe file from the game directory, enable every graphical features and run the game!
Have phun ;)
How exactly do I install Freespace Open? Do I need to install it over my Freespace 2 directory, or what? They include installation instructions, but I'm no modder, so I'm a bit confused at it.
If you want to use Turey's FSO Installer: Yes. Point it at your \freespace2\ folder and it'll place everything correctly.
If you want to do things manually, follow the instructions at http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47640.0.html . They are quite thorough.
Just got the game and I was quite surprised to see my framerates scraping the single digits. Installing FS Open solved it for me. Now I have beautiful, silky smooth framerates with all settings maxed.
